Description

The Department of Art, Graphic Design and Art History at Oklahoma State University seeks applications for the position of Visiting Assistant Professor of Photography & 2D Foundations for the 2025–2026 academic year, beginning in August 2025. This 9-month appointment carries the possibility for renewal, contingent on performance. The appointment is contingent upon the availability of funding and sponsorship for a work visa is not available.

We seek an artist/photographer who demonstrates strong teaching skills and a commitment to photography as evidenced in student and professional work. An excellent candidate will be an empathic educator who bridges technical and conceptual priorities in their teaching. The teaching assignment will include all levels of digital photography, as well as other studio art courses such as 2D foundations. We are open to applicants who offer additional specializations such as video, installation, and alternative photographic processes. 

At all levels of our photography curriculum, there is a deep commitment to contextualizing student projects within the broader history of art, photography, and related media through regular readings, discussions and student writing. Our studio art offerings are hands-on and fully in-person courses that meet twice per week for nearly 3 hours per session. Photography classes meet in the newly renovated digital lab, providing students with 24/7 access to new Mac computers with the full Adobe Creative Suite. Students enrolled in photography courses may check out a DSLR camera and tripod for the entire semester and have access to large format ink jet printers during supervised lab time.

Core Duties:

• The teaching load for this position is 4-4, including all levels of photography and 2D Foundations.

• Maintenance, check out, and oversight of photography equipment, supplies, and program budget

• Participation in regular Studio Area and Foundations meetings

• Some departmental service

About OSU and the Department of Art, Graphic Design and Art History

OSU is an R1 comprehensive land-grant institution that is nationally known for its teaching, research, and outreach programs. The Department of Art, Graphic Design and Art History has 254 majors and over 20 full-time faculty across its three programs. It offers BA degrees in Studio Art and Art History, BFA degrees in Studio Art and Graphic Design, an MA in Art History and an MFA in Graphic Design.  Facilities include fully equipped studios for all areas, large Mac labs, a Visual Resources Center, the Gardiner Gallery of Art (in the department), and a sizable permanent art collection held by the Oklahoma State University Museum of Art. The Prairie Arts Center is a community arts center overseen by OSU, and the campus is also home to the world-class McKnight Center for the Performing Arts. Stillwater is approximately one hour from Tulsa and Oklahoma City, both cities with thriving museums and arts districts.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

• MFA in photography or closely related field

• Teaching experience in higher education

• An active and strong exhibition record
