Technical Director, Senior Solution Architect (Director Level)

ERM is looking for a Technical Director, Senior Solution Architect (Director Level). The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of cloud computing technologies, architecture, and best practices. The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing, developing, and implementing robust cloud-based solutions. This role also requires a deep understanding of data engineering principles, a strong foundation in cloud computing, and a passion for leveraging data to address climate challenges. Candidate will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining robust data pipelines to extract, transform, and load (ETL) complex climate data from various sources into our data lake.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the design and implementation of complex cloud solutions, ensuring alignment with business objectives and technical requirements.
- Collaborate with data scientists and climate experts to understand business needs and translate them into cloud-based solutions.
- Develop and maintain cloud architecture standards and best practices.
- Design and architect robust, scalable, and secure cloud solutions.
- Cloud Infrastructure: Leverage your expertise in multi-cloud environments (AWS, Azure, GCP) to architect and implement cloud-native data solutions, including data lakes, and data warehouses.
- Data Pipeline Development: Design, develop, and maintain scalable data pipelines to extract, transform, and load (ETL) data from various sources, including climate models, satellite imagery, IoT devices, and public datasets using cloud-native technologies and tools.
- Big Data Technologies: Utilize big data technologies (Databricks, Hadoop, Spark, etc.) to process and analyze large volumes of climate data. Develop advanced data processing and analytics capabilities to support climate modeling and simulation.
- Performance Optimization: Identify and implement performance optimizations for data pipelines and queries. Optimize data storage and retrieval strategies to improve query performance and reduce costs.
- Machine Learning Integration: Explore and implement machine learning and artificial intelligence techniques to extract valuable information from climate data.
- Cloud Migration: Conduct thorough assessments of existing IT and data infrastructure and recommend cloud migration strategies.
- Data Governance: Adhere to data governance policies and regulations, ensuring data privacy and security.
- Data Quality: Ensure data integrity, accuracy, and consistency by implementing robust data quality checks and monitoring processes.
- Stay up to date with the latest trends, cloud certifications (Solutions Architect) and advancements in data engineering, solution architect and cloud computing.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience as a Solution architect with a strong track record of delivering data solutions.
- Proficiency in programming languages (Python, Scala, R, Bash) and data processing frameworks (Apache Spark, Databricks, Python, SQL, NoSQL).
- Proficiency in tools and technologies (e.g., Python, SQL, ETL/ELT tools, data warehousing, data lakes).
- In-depth knowledge of cloud computing concepts, including IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS.
- Experience with climate data and related domains (e.g., meteorology, oceanography) is preferred.
- Expertise in cloud security, networking, and data management.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 15+ years of experience in solution architecture and data engineering, with a strong focus on cloud-based data solutions.
- Experience with climate-specific data formats and standards (e.g., NetCDF, GRIB, ZARR, COG).
- Extensive experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and their data services (e.g., S3, Lambda, Databricks, BigQuery).
- Certifications in cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP).
- Experience with containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes)
- Knowledge of data visualization tools (Tableau, PowerBI)
- Familiarity with machine learning and data science concepts.
