The primary function of this position is to provide technical leadership to the Anthropometry and Biomechanics Facility at NASA's Johnson Space Center. The ABF performs anthropometric, biomechanical, ergonomic, and human factors evaluations of flight equipment and procedures, including evaluation of current and future space suit designs. The ABF utilizes motion analysis systems, force sensing devices, anthropometric measuring devices, and computer modeling/analysis. The primary purpose of this position is to provide contractor leadership to scientists and engineers in the ABF to enable completion of operational evaluations and analyses supporting a variety of NASA Programs. Tasks will include technical guidance and leadership of study design, data collection, data reduction and analysis, allocation of workload across the contractor team, working with the NASA Technical Monitor and contract manager to develop and communicate lab priorities, and preparation of technical reports and presentations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Responsible for compliance with Safety, Health, and Environmental plan; must be committed to a high standard of safety and be willing and able to comply with all safety laws and all of the Company’s safety policies and rules and must be willing to report safety violations and potential safety violations to appropriate supervisory or management
• Responsible for compliance with the Quality Assurance Plan, policies and procedures
• Responsible for completing all assigned training
• Ensure compliance with HHPC and KBR standard policies and procedures
• Lead operational evaluations to assess anthropometry, human factors, ergonomics, biomechanics, and risk of injury
• Communicate lab priorities to lab personnel and direct day-to-day activities.
• Work with Functional Manager and Technical Monitors (TMs) to establish lab priorities.
• Direct interface to NASA TMs
• Ensure compliance with JSC/HHPC standard policies and procedures.
• Report laboratory activities to Functional Manager and TMs as appropriate
• Work with Functional Manager to identify skillset requirements and available resources required to complete tasks.
• Communicate lab priorities to lab personnel and direct day-to-day activities and organize and equitably distribute project and task workloads
• Mentor lab personnel and equitably distribute personal growth opportunities
• Contribute to evaluation of personnel performance reviews
• Work to build team cohesion
• Resolve, or facilitate resolution of, scheduling and task assignment conflicts
• Understand and communicate cost, schedule, and performance at lab level
• Lead preparation of support documentation for studies, including Institutional Review Board protocols, test plans, test readiness review packages, etc.
• Perform equipment set-up, calibration, and monitoring for tests/evaluations
• Carry out experiments with human test subjects
• Assist with reduction and analysis of test data, including appropriate statistical methods
• Prepare technical reports, manuscripts, and presentations
• Present technical results at internal meetings and scientific conferences
• Archive data per NASA policy
• Provide inputs to weekly and monthly status reports
• Demonstrate a strong work ethic and commitment to the customer and team
• Serve as a test subject for protocol and hardware evaluations on a volunteer basis
• Perform other duties as assigned
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
Required:
• Bachelor's degree in human factors/ergonomics, biomechanics, biomedical engineering, industrial engineering or a related field, plus 10 years of experience in a relevant field, or a combination of graduate-level education and experience is required.
Desired:
• Master's degree in human factors/ergonomics, biomechanics, biomedical engineering, industrial engineering or a related field, plus 3-5 years of experience in a relevant field, or a combination of graduate-level education and experience.
• Experience with NASA standards and requirements or similar experience with a broad set of human factors, ergonomics, and anthropometry requirements
• Experience conducting or supporting human health and performance research
• Applicable certifications, including Certified Professional Ergonomist (CPE) or CPHF (Certified Professional in Human Factors)
