Mines is pleased to accept applications for an Assistant Athletic Trainer.

The Assistant Athletic Trainer supervises the care of student athletes competing in the Department of Athletics at Colorado School of Mines. The assistant athletic trainer is responsible for the prevention, evaluation, management, treatment and rehabilitation of both short- and long-term injuries.

This position works on-campus in Golden, Colorado. The assistant athletic trainer must be willing to work weekends, evenings, and holidays. This includes travel to all football away games, indoor and outdoor track and field conference and NCAA meets, and a portion of wrestling away contests.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform the following functions regarding athletic injuries: prevention, assessment, treatment, (including First Aid) and reconditioning as set forth by the NATA Board of Certification.
  • Document all injuries and rehabilitation.
  • Demonstrate proper taping, strapping, bracing, and fitting of athletic equipment.
  • Carry out all physician prescribed treatments and recommendations.
  • Maintain Colorado State Licensure, BOC, and CPR certification in accordance with those respective governing bodies.
  • Ensure all student athletes submit valid medical paperwork and physical exams prior to athletic participation.
  • Share responsibility with football and wrestling and be the primary athletic trainer for cross country and track and field as assigned by the head athletic trainer.
  • Provide coverage of assigned athletic practices, contests and related events as assigned by the head athletics trainer.
  • Perform duties as assigned by the head athletic trainer and director of athletics to the best of his/her ability in a professional manner.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Attends meetings when necessary.
  • Participates in designated staff functions including job related in-service training.
  • Follows all University, RMAC and NCAA policies and procedures.
  • Enforce Training Room rules.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in athletic training or health-related field.
  • Three years in an athletic training setting preferred. Entry level graduates with ATC certification will be considered.

Certifications and Licenses:

  • Current ATC Certification
  • Good Standing with the BOC
  • Licensed in the State of Colorado (DORA) or eligible to be
  • Current certification for First Aid, CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Exceptional communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Ability to work with diverse populations, as part of a team, and collaborate with others.
  • Ability to work irregular hours and travel schedule required by the position.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:

  • Master’s Degree
  • Experience working football
  • Experience working cross country and track and field
  • Experience working wrestling

Certifications and Licenses:

  • Member of NATA and in good standing.
  • Dry Needling certification or interest      

JOB DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

Physical Requirements:                                       

  • Able to lift weight up to 80 lbs.
  • Typical physical activity of athletic training roles: standing for long periods of time, walking, occasional running, etc.

Potential Environmental Conditions/Hazards:

  • Must perform job duties in inclement weather
