As a shelter medicine technician, you’ll have opportunities to practice and expand your skills not only in nursing care and population management, but critical thinking and problem solving. With a broad spectrum of responsibilities that range from routine preventative care to considering how to minimize length of stay throughout the shelter population, every day has the potential to be a little different, but never boring. The team focuses on finding the balance between stellar individual patient care with the needs of all the animals in our shelter.

Our Contributions to you:

  • Competitive salary: $32-$40/hour
  • Generous benefits, including student debt benefit program and signing bonuses
  • Collaborative, passionate team
  • Investment in your growth - CE stipends and CE PTO
  • Mentorship & a Leadership team that's dedicated to seeing you thrive
  • Onsite Behavior & Training Dept
  • Mental Health Resources & Mindset Coaching
  • Commitment to our Capacity for Care
  • Deep and meaningful work

What you bring to the table:

  • Provide daily treatments, diagnostics, and medical care to shelter patients, including advanced support (IV fluids, bandaging, wound care, etc)
  • Daily assessment and triage of shelter and foster populations
  • Evaluate the health of animals who are accepted into the shelter (initial physical exams and gathering medical history)
  • Assistance of high volume/high quality spay/neuter (induction, prep, monitoring, recovery, and record keeping)
  • Assist non-spay/neuter surgeries (including potentially complicated or unstable anesthetic patients)
  • Collaborate with adoptions department, volunteer engagement team, animal care staff, and partner shelters and veterinary specialists in and out of San Francisco counties
  • Self-motivated, adaptable and team oriented
  • Share and receive direct and open communication
  • Self-care and consciousness of the importance of work-life balance
