The Principal Data Center Infrastructure Management (DCIM) Engineer is responsible for the management and administration of the Electric Power Monitoring Systems (EPMS) and Building Management Systems (BMS’s). Primary responsibilities for strategy, engineering, design, and innovation of the EMPS and BMS systems within QTS data centers and assisting with any construction/upgrade efforts therein. Additional duties are to provide system administration tasks for all DCIM systems which are comprised of EPMS’s, BMS’s (Building Automation Systems) and SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition Systems)
The ideal candidate will possess a technology background that enables him/her to undertake the challenges of sophisticated system platforms and demonstrated an ability to think broadly and strategically in aligning with the larger objectives of the business.
Responsibilities, other duties may be assigned
- Ensure systems are operating as designed to protect the data center, capture power usage, calculate available capacity, and provide meaningful, timely alarms, notifications and reports to end users.
- Administer QTS Schneider-Electric WonderWare DCIM standards toolkit and Execution Requirements.
- Interface with design consultants and BMS vendors to ensure BMS reliability objectives are met for new data center deployments and data center retrofit projects. Coordinate application deployments and IT infrastructure between the vendor and Corporate IT departments.
- Lead the effort of change by training and supporting regional DCIM Engineers on BMS/EPMS applications.
- Provide tactical leadership to implement enterprise alarming standards at the site level. Ensure site alarms are delivered to the Operations Support Center (OSC) via QTS standards. Develop validation program for system alarms to ensure the right alarm is received by the right person at the right time.
- The configuration of EPMS applications in support of new data center deployments, new data requirements and data center retrofits. Ensure all WonderWare deployments/retrofits adhere to QTS published standards.
- Develop BMS standards for system topology, graphics and functionality between multiple vendors and multiple sites.
- Create standards and follow implementation by regional engineers on system administration of DCIM systems which include: application/database backups, redundant platform readiness, licenses management, infrastructure coordination for application support, etc.
- Prepare and maintain DCIM systems support documentation, test plans, and change management records.
- Coordinate DCIM system’s ethernet and IT requirements with internal IT operations.
- Engage, lead, and direct vendors via Scope of Work and Requests for Proposals/information documents.
- Implement corporate policies procedures and standards to maximize the performance of systems, applications and networks.
- Coordinate field work as required including any necessary contractor supervision.
- Work closely with co-workers, maintenance personnel, project managers, building managers, engineers, and contractors on site-specific projects.
- Participate in on-call duty; to include providing off-hour emergency support as needed.
- Development of drawings for control panels, power distribution, junction boxes. Included in the drawings are the general arrangement, internal layout, schematics and interconnection and wire diagrams.
- Preparation of cable, routing plans and schedules.
- Perform inspections, and assist in the testing and commissioning of the facility system (as required)
Basic Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Engineering Technology, or other related Engineering degrees or equivalent professional experience.
- Ten or more years of experience with critical monitoring/control systems and support for critical facilities.
- Strong knowledge and experience with a BMS and building EPMS systems.
- Familiarity with power distribution systems in a data center environment or similar critical systems environment.
- Aveva WonderWare certification
- Up to 25% travel required
- US Citizenship for this position is required by law due to federal customer contracts
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of BAS/BMS systems, ALC, Andover, Tridium, Delta Controls or others.
- Experience with Ignition/Ignition Certification.
- Understanding of network implementation.
- Working knowledge of virtualized environments.
- Familiarity with ServiceNo
