About the role

Anduril Industries is a defense technology company with a mission to transform U.S. and allied military capabilities with advanced technology. By bringing the expertise, technology, and business model of the 21st century’s most innovative companies to the defense industry, Anduril is changing how military systems are designed, built and sold. Anduril’s family of systems is powered by Lattice OS, an AI-powered operating system that turns thousands of data streams into a realtime, 3D command and control center. As the world enters an era of strategic competition, Anduril is committed to bringing cutting-edge autonomy, AI, computer vision, sensor fusion, and networking technology to the military in months, not years.

At Anduril Maritime we are developing unmanned systems for subsurface and other domains that will leverage unsupervised autonomy for the delivery of multi-mission capability to our customers. These projects, including but not limited to the DIVE-LD platform, require Mechanical Engineers with broad experience to drive the delivery a variety of software enabled hardware capabilities to our customers. Anduril Mechanical Engineers rapidly develop expertise in new domains in order to architect, design, deliver, support, and evolve next generation capabilities through the entire product life-cycle.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Perform hand calculations and spreadsheet first order models to inform path forward before jumping into detailed design or analysis. Use first principles as a basis for every decision
  • Communicate pros/cons of system architecture with respect to structural considerations. Strong focus on good architecture to ensure designs are robust in nature
  • Work with aero/CFD engineers and others to define loads for vehicle structure and subsystems
  • Generate and maintain integrated FEMs for maritime platforms. Astutely pace model maturity based on state of hardware design and program goals
  • Support design development and verification analysis to meet customer requirements
  • Develop internal tools and reports for communicating loads and analysis results across teams
  • Present status at formal reviews with Customer and internally. Technical status, risk tracking, inputs to program planning, etc.
  • Interview other team members as projects grow in scope and complexity. Attract strong technical talent
  • Create test models, define test loads, requirements and margins, and oversee structural testing
  • Own the design, analysis, and testing processes of mechanical and structural components that are deployed to customers, focused on the delivery of value to the end-user
  • Act as a subject matter expert for your areas of expertise as they relate to the delivery of Anduril’s technology capabilities, including areas such as part design, loads development, material selection, structural sizing, FEM analysis working with both metallic and composite materials

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace, a relevant field, or equivalent experience
  • Extensive professional experience working as a Mechanical Structural Analyst with one or more domains and/or technologies of expertise
  • Extensive knowledge of analytical structural analysis methods for both metallic and composite structures.
  • Extensive professional experience developing Finite Element Method (FEM) models for the purposes of load development, part stress and strain evaluation and modal analysis
  • Capacity to work holistically on complex mechanical systems and structures across design, implementation, operation and sustainment
  • Capacity to act as the technical owner for a complex structural components and assemblies, including stakeholder engagement, requirements definition, roadmap management, team co-ordination, design, implementation, sustainment and evolution
  • Capacity learn and grow individually, while mentoring junior team members effectively, building team cohesion and capacity
  • Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a U.S. Secret clearance

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience with the design, implementation and support of structural and mechanical parts and assemblies
  • Experience working within the defense, maritime and/or aerospace domains
  • Experience with SolidWorks and Teamcenter
  • Experience with finite element analysis of complex structural assemblies, including metallic and composite structures
  • Experience with machining, sheet metal, injection molding, composites and/or additive manufacturing
  • Experience within the product delivery lifecycle including manufacturing, system acceptance, deployment, and sustainment
