The Director of People & Labor Relations provides direct oversight of the people operations functions of the organization. The position works directly with the Chief People and Diversity/Inclusion Officer to support the organization’s overall people strategy and Labor Relations.
As our Director of People & Labor Relations, you'll be the champion of our people, fostering a culture of collaboration, respect, and growth. You'll navigate complex labor issues with empathy and expertise, always keeping our mission front and center.
This position is hybrid and requires living within the Greater Seattle Area.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement HR strategies that align with the organization’s mission and objectives.
- Develop and implement labor relations strategies that align with organizational objectives.
- Provide strategic leadership and input on decisions that affect the organization’s workforce.
Negotiations:
- Help lead collective bargaining agreement (CBA) negotiations, ensuring favorable and sustainable terms for both parties.
Policy Development:
- Develop and revise people policies and procedures to ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations and CBA.
- Communicate HR policies to all team members and ensure proper implementation.
Recruitment and Staffing:
- Oversee the recruitment and selection process to ensure that the organization attracts and retains top talent.
- Develop and implement strategies for workforce planning and development.
Dispute Resolution:
- Assist to Mediate and resolve labor disputes, grievances, and other conflicts. Represent the organization at arbitration hearings when necessary.
- Manage and resolve complex team member relations.
- Conduct investigations and recommend appropriate actions.
Compensation and Benefits:
- Oversee the development and implementation of compensation and benefits programs that are competitive and compliant with applicable laws.
Training and Development:
- Oversee the training and development plans and ensure all team members can access necessary training and development opportunities.
- Conduct training sessions for managers and supervisors on topics of labor relations, conflict resolution, and others as necessary.
- Develop and implement leadership development programs.
Performance Management:
- Oversee the performance evaluation process and ensure it is fair and effective.
- Provide guidance to Directors and ELT on performance management issues.
Legal Compliance:
- Ensure the organization complies with all applicable laws, regulations and CBA.
- Stay updated on changes in employment law and best practices.
Diversity and Inclusion:
- Promote diversity and inclusion within the organization.
- Develop and implement programs that foster a diverse and inclusive workplace culture.
Data and Analytics:
- Utilize metrics and analytics to make informed decisions.
- Present data to senior leadership and provide recommendations.
Qualifications
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or related field; Master’s Degree preferred.
- Minimum five years' total human resources experience
- Minimum two years' experience at a manager level or above, including supervision of team members.
- Experience working in non-profit organizations is preferred
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES, AND SKILLS
- Knowledgeable in Federal, WA state, and local employment laws and practices, including EEO, FLSA, FMLA, WLAD, ACA, Pregnancy Disability, and others
- Knowledge of Collective Bargaining Agreements, required
- Ability to relate well to both supervisory and line staff team members.
- Confidentiality, tact, judgment and discretion
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
