JOB SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Senior Technical Operations & Event Manager, the Senior Technical Operations & Event Manager assists leadership in all areas related to managing events in the  venues operated by the Event Management Team. This position will focus on the premier event spaces at EXP 8 and East Village 17. This includes providing oversight, expertise, and direction on all technical aspects of events and providing high end client interactions and operational oversight. The days of coverage for this position are typically Monday through Friday but a flexible schedule is a must as high level/mission critical events may be scheduled in the evenings, on holidays, and weekends.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Broad knowledge of audio, video, and technology practices. Includes knowledge of fly systems, safety protocols, fire codes, and operation of lighting and sound amplification systems sufficient to supervise technical services and/or contract outside professionals. 

  • Active experience in audio & video signal routing, network control systems, theatrical lighting and show control.

  • Working knowledge of Yamaha Digital Soundboards, Shure Wireless microphone systems, ETC Family Consoles, Sony Camera PTZ systems, Blackmagic Design production switchers, Qlab and OBS software, Dante Controller and Crestron.

  • Familiarity with multi-media production integrating Mac and PC. Knowledge of the changing audio, video and technology needs. Ability to diagnose technical issues. Ability to manage small and large event productions. Experience with facility management and scheduling.

  • Knowledge and skills required for this position normally acquired through completion of a bachelor’s degree in a related field, and 4-6 years of experience with executive level event support is required.

  • The ability to work in high profile and high-stress situations. 

  • Supervisory skills and the ability to train, schedule, lead and manage students.  Proficiency in Microsoft Office products (specifically PowerPoint and Word). On occasion may be required to lift objects up to 30 pounds.   Ability to be flexible with schedule which will include weekend hours and some Holidays.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES

1) Event Planning and Advising

  • Work with clients on the coordination of event details.

  • Review scheduled use of event spaces from a daily/weekly/monthly perspective and prepare for all upcoming events.

  • Work with clients to determine technical needs.

  • Enforce policies and procedures related to use of university facilities.

  • Work with facility services and campus partners to coordinate and implement events.

2) Technical Operations

  • Oversees and provides support for audio/visual, and other technical services needed for events.

  • Present on site to manage and troubleshoot at all high-profile events.

  • Ensure support and complete oversight of all productions. 

3) Venue Operations

  • Oversees security of facilities and events, inventory, and housekeeping of facilities.

  • Assist with purchases and maintain equipment, supplies and services for ongoing operation of all premier event venues.

  • Direct event staff during events while monitoring these facilities, and coordinate w/ related units (i.e. Facility services, catering, public safety) for efficient delivery of service.

  • Coordinate in the development and assist in the training of student organizations in event planning. (i.e. Student Organization Event Training).

  • Track renovation and work order requests, report and monitor repair of building equipment.

  • Routinely check the building for maintenance issues.

4) Leadership

  • Assists with recruiting, hiring, training, and development of student supervisors, work study students, and paraprofessional staff in technical positions.

  • Selects, onboards, and continually develops staff in a way that creates an environment that inspires employees to do their best work. Sets clear goals and expectations, delegates work effectively.

  • Set performance expectations related to interactions with clients and participants, technical services, Event Assistants and provide performance feedback and staffing up-training as needed.

  • Communicate regularly with scheduling, operations and staff about available shifts, staffing reminders and operational updates.

  • Assist with maintaining the student staff schedules.
