Short Description:

We are seeking a Principal Scientist to manage genetic toxicology studies and to develop testing strategies that support drug candidate selection and regulatory submissions. This role involves the development, assessment, and implementation of new methods for genetic toxicology screening, as well as determining mechanisms of genetic toxicity and conducting risk assessments.

Position Description:

The Genetic Toxicology group within Nonclinical Drug Safety is looking for an experienced genetic toxicologist with expertise in risk assessment and the development of New Approach Methodologies (NAMs). The primary responsibilities include:

  • Providing scientific leadership and supporting discovery project teams in genotoxicity screening and risk assessment strategies.
  • Leading innovation in genetic toxicology through the development and implementation of new technologies, such as error-corrected next-generation sequencing (ecNGS) and in vitro tissue models.
  • Establishing and validating in vivo and in vitro assays.
  • Engaging with industry and regulatory bodies through external working groups.
  • Staying current with the latest testing strategies and approaches.
  • Influencing scientific direction through publications and presentations.

This position requires a laboratory component to establish new technologies and provide scientific oversight and mentorship to junior-level scientists.  The individual in this position will be expected to work collaboratively across many disciplines, thus effective written and verbal communication is critical.

Position Qualifications:

  • PhD in Toxicology or a related field.
  • 5+ years of post-doctoral experience in genetic toxicology.

Required Experience and Skills:

  • Knowledge in genetic toxicology risk assessment and the application of investigative tools, including NAMs for genotoxicity and carcinogenicity risk assessment.
  • Demonstrated scientific leadership in genetic toxicology.
  • Experience managing and mentoring junior staff.
  • Strong understanding of mechanistic genetic toxicology as it relates to risk assessment.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Proven collaboration and recognition within the field of genetic toxicology through scientific societies, working groups, or publications.
  • Highly dedicated and motivated individual.

Preferred Experience and Skills:

  • Experience applying mechanistic data from genetic toxicology for genotoxicity and carcinogenicity risk assessment.
  • Advanced data management and visualization skills for high-content data analysis.
  • Familiarity with ecNGS is a plus.
