Job Title: Staff Backend Data Engineer 

Role Summary: 

As a Staff Backend Data Engineer at Walmart Search Data Team, you will play a pivotal role in developing, designing and managing the backend data systems that drive our search operations. This role requires a deep understanding of data structures, databases, and coding, with an emphasis on enhancing our search efficiency and accuracy. Your work will be crucial in improving our customer shopping experience by making product searches simpler, faster, and more accurate. 

Key Responsibilities: 

1. Develop and maintain robust, scalable backend data systems, databases, and services. 

2. Collaborate with data scientists, data analysts, and other stakeholders to understand their data requirements and devise efficient solutions. 

3. Implement data pipelines, data flow, and system integrations needed to drive the search function. 

4. Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to data quality and execution. 

5. Lead the design, creation, and deployment of large datasets to be used for statistical modeling and data mining. 

6. Ensure data security and compliance with all regulatory requirements. 

7. Regularly test system for vulnerabilities and develop solutions for any potential data breaches. 

8. Keep up-to-date with the latest industry trends and technologies to ensure that our systems remain current and competitive. 

Required Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 

1. Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field. 

2. Minimum of 5 years of experience in backend data engineering. 

3. Proficient in SQL, Python, Java, or other similar languages. 

4. Familiarity with big data tools such as Hadoop, Spark, Kafka, etc. 

5. Experience with relational SQL and NoSQL databases. 

6. Strong understanding of data structures and algorithms. 

7. Experience with cloud services like AWS, Google Cloud, or Microsoft Azure. 

8. Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail. 

9. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal. 

10. Ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
