Job Description

As a Staff Software Engineer for the Austin Platform team,  you will be part of a very unique team that is privileged to work on the newest and coolest containerized technologies available.  You will be part of a team that doesn’t just use the cloud….you will create it!

As Platform Engineer, your day will be filled with absorbing, learning and mastering new technologies and frameworks.  You will use this new found knowledge to design and build the next generating Java based software as a service for Cyber Source.   You will not be using someone else’s cloud, you will be creating it!

Not only will you be building the new unique and advanced solutions, but you will lead your team in designing the next generation platforms that Visa will be using now and into the future.

You must love troubleshooting for this position.  There is a lot to learn, and we need someone who is up to the task to learn. If you want to learn new technologies, this is the job for you.  If you are good at problem solving and love to get your hands dirty learning new things, than this Staff Software position is for you.  (Did I mention that you are learning brand new technologies?)

Essential Functions:

• You will lead and mentor teams of dev and test engineers to build great new products.
• You will understand a complex set of highly advance technologies that are used to provide real time streaming solution at millions of transactions per second, in real time.
• You’ll help our customers achieve their real goals by understanding their requirements and how they respond to their business needs.
• You’ll use technologies that include Java, Kubernetes, Flink, Vert.x, Kafka, and more.
• You will analyze business requirements and architect a solutions that are robust and scalable along with providing technical documentation of solution.
• You’ll leverage new technologies to build the next generation of Transactional systems.
• You’ll develop and deliver new features every few days and be responsible for them end-end

You will possess these quality: 

• You have demonstrable tech lead experience in the software industry.
• You can work in Austin Texas.  This is not a remote position.
• You have the work and academic experience that will demonstrate proficiency and ease with programming languages, code quality initiatives, scripting languages and operating systems
• You have experience in commercial software development on Unix/Linux environment.
• You have experience in consumer facing application development.

This is a hybrid position. Hybrid employees can alternate time between both remote and office. Employees in hybrid roles are expected to work from the office two days a week, Tuesdays and Wednesdays with a general guidepost of being in the office 50% of the time based on business needs.
