WORK LOCATION, SCHEDULE, & TRAVEL
- This position will be based out of Metro-Atlanta (Forest Park, GA).
- Hybrid work schedule (both in-office and telecommute); currently four (4) days in-office and one (1) day telecommute.
- Relocation assistance may be provided if the successful candidate does not currently live within a reasonable commute distance.
- This position will require some travel (day and overnight, up to 25%) and the ability to work successfully in a remote/virtual environment with access to internet service.
JOB SUMMARY
The Civil Engineering Team Leader is responsible for leading a team consisting of direct reports, supplemental staff, and contract resources to provide project scoping, conceptual design and estimating services in support of the Georgia Power (GPC) transmission capital program. The team is responsible for providing civil site conceptual designs as part of the GPC Gated Project Management process and for supporting GPC’s planning and budgeting process by providing complete and accurate cost estimates associated with transmission capital projects. The Team Leader position is responsible for providing performance management for all direct reports. The position will require field visits and may involve occasional overnight travel.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Create a safe work environment through personal commitment to safety.
- Manage the selection, development, and performance of direct reports.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for all scoping and estimating requests. Responsible for establishing clear expectations (scope of work, accuracy level, priorities, timeframe) and providing on-going communication to ensure customer satisfaction.
- Lead team members to apply substation physical engineering expertise to provide input on project development and scoping, to create conceptual design packages, and to provide accurate cost estimates to meet customer expectations.
- Provide work direction and oversight for supplemental staff and contract resources as needed.
- Participate in, support, and lead as appropriate, Southern Company Transmission activities and initiatives.
- Develop and support a strong and effective team environment within Southern Company Technical and Project Solutions and with the Operating Companies.
- Ensure appropriate transmission substation engineering representation on solution team and site selection committees.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
- BS Engineering or Engineering Technology degree is preferred.
- BS Engineering or Engineering Technology degree in Civil Engineering is preferred.
- Professional Engineering (P.E.) license is preferred.
Experience:
- Prior experience in transmission planning, design, construction, operations, or maintenance is required.
- Prior experience in Civil Site design is preferred.
- Prior experience in Civil Site project development and cost estimating is preferred.

- General knowledge of the activities associated with surveying, land acquisition, and obtaining easements.
- Working knowledge of Operating Company processes, procedures and tools used in the development of transmission and distribution line projects.
- Working knowledge of the design standards, processes, procedures, and tools used to scope, estimate, and design transmission and distribution line projects.
- Working knowledge of the Operating Company and SCST processes, procedures and tools used to create, manage, and close general work orders including all applicable FERC and company accounting policies.
- Detailed knowledge of local, state, and federal regulations governing the design and construct
