The Senior Predictive Modeler will build predictive models to drive “best in class” underwriting and portfolio management across all business units. This a fully on-site position which can be located in our New York office.

 

How you will have an impact:

 

You will implement successful predictive modeling solutions by working collaboratively with Underwriting, IT and Operations as needed. Additional responsibilities include facilitating the buy-in of underwriters and business leaders of predictive modeling by improving knowledge and understanding of model insights. Responsible for modeling projects throughout their lifecycle: data work, reconciliation, problem articulation, modeling, communication, delivery, and monitoring. Will mentor junior modelers on data preparation, programing, modeling, and visualization skills.

 

Data Science Initiatives:

  • Leads the strategic and tactical planning, development, evaluation, and coordination of the information and technology systems, as appropriate, for the Actuarial department (Pricing & Reserving functions).
  • Lead the development, maintenance, and enhancement of analytics, data management, modeling analyses, and ad hoc work products into system-based solutions.
  • Create data sets to be used by the Actuarial department that combine multiple complex data sources into a format that is suitable for analysis.
  • Lead the team in the architecture/design and building of new automated solutions and procedures for the Actuarial department.
  • Train users of new and enhanced system solutions, tools, and advanced data, specific to daily tasks.
  • Act as liaison for the Actuarial department on enterprise-wide information technology discussions. Maintain current knowledge of trends and products in the system technology industries and address the need to develop of new methods, products, and procedures.
  • Acts as subject matter expert on internal data sources and data collection applications (both claims and underwriting) and their impact on actuarial tools and work products.
  • Work closely with underwriters and Data Analytics to understand best framework for deploying data insights.
  • Work cooperatively in a team environment with other functions:  Underwriting, Claims, Finance, Reserving, IT, etc.

 

Qualification:

  • Bachelor’s degree in mathematics, Actuarial Science, Data Science, Statistics, or Applied Science.
  • 5+ years of experience in a predictive modeling capacity, preferably with a property & casualty insurance carrier.
  • Proficiency in analytical programming languages like R, Python, SAS, etc.
  • Experience with data analytics and statistical modeling.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of when to apply predictive modeling techniques such as penalized regression, trees, clustering, time series, text mining, optimization, etc.
  • Experience in implementing models in underwriting and pricing approaches.
  • Proficiency with relational databases and SQL.
  • Experience in manipulating large amounts of structured and unstructured data.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to convey technical concepts to management, team members, and other functional areas.
  • Proven creative problem-solving abilities.
  • Polished and professional written and verbal communication skills.
