Position Summary...

We are seeking an enthusiastic Distinguished, Software Engineer, individual contributor for Data Foundation Services (DFS) organization specializing in datastore technologies, data access layer, serverless data services, etc. The Distinguished Engineer will be responsible for design, develop and implement large-scale distributed systems with a focus on reliability, scalability, latency, and fault-tolerance. We are a close-knit team, focusing on challenging problems in reliable data access layer that make a difference to our business applications across Walmart Global Technology organization.

What you'll do:

• Leadership: Hands on in building, leading, and mentoring high-performing engineering teams, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous learning.
• Technology Expert: Deep understanding of database technologies, application frameworks, data security, distributed systems, communication protocols, and PaaS technologies is critical.
• Collaboration: Foster effective communication and collaboration across teams and stakeholders. Act as a liaison between the engineering team and other business functions to align priorities, address challenges, and manage risks.
• Drive: Drive Engineering and Operational excellency improvements to development practices including planning, architecture, documentation, and testing.
• Product Ownership: Own design, development, and delivery of data access layer for various datastores, including both relational (SQL) and non-relational (NoSQL) databases, as well as other data access technologies such as cloud-based data services.
• Root-cause analysis of complex problems involving multiple teams, applications, networks, hardware, and software that relate to scaling and performance.
• Collaborate with public cloud database service providers and deliver efficient and effective database solutions to business critical applications. 
• Own the problems and deliver solutions for complex problems. 

What you'll bring:

• 15+ years of software development experience in backend systems and services involving database accesses (SQL and NoSQL) in distributed environment.
• Extensive hands on experience and deep expertise in Java based technologies is a must.  Thorough understanding of concurrency and threads models in Java.
• Proficiency in database technologies and deep understanding their designs and limitations (SQL and NoSQL)
• Designs, scopes, and builds large projects across multiple teams with end-to-end delivery.
• Git or a similar version control tool
• Strong understanding of agile methodologies (Scrum and Kanban)
• Strong understanding of continuous integration and delivery (Jenkins, GitOps, etc)
• Strong understanding of testing frameworks and concepts (Integration, Unit, etc )

• Experience in running large-scale data platforms.
• Able to write clear design documentations.
• Able to diagnose and do deep analysis on production issues.
• Able to lead a group of engineers to solve a challenging problem/project
• Able to mentor junior engineers
