Under the direction of the Accounting Manager, this exempt position in the Office of Accounting & Business Services (ABS) is responsible for general accounting, understanding and working with financial systems, analyze and reconcile information, and prepare accounting work papers or journal entries as needed.Full Job Description:
Reconcile daily Banner miscellaneous cash transactions to bank activity across multiple bank accounts and research and resolve any variances noted.
Reconcile third party payment processor information to banking activity. Resolve any discrepancies noted.
Review daily cash receipts for incoming ACH and wire sources, and reconcile the deposit totals to the supporting documents. Resolve discrepancies between actual amounts received vs. support provided by collaborating with other University departments or the bank. Post ACH and Wire transactions to the general ledger.
Review, research, and process direct cash receipts journals for incoming payments, interdepartmental allocations, transfer requests, corrections, and other transactions such as reclassifications.
On an as needed basis, review, reconcile and post required entries for selected processes and general ledger accounts.
Assist with the preparation of year-end audit schedules.
Act as a liaison between the ABS and Business Managers to coordinate efforts in meeting fiscal year end deadlines.
Supervise and mentor student assistants, as needed.
Perform other duties, as assigned, to meet the operating needs of the Accounting Business Services Office.
Minimum Job Qualifications:
A bachelor’s degree in accounting or closely related field is preferred, with at least two to five years of progressive work experience in a fast-paced general accounting office preferred. Strong written and oral communication skills are essential, as are excellent proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word. Experience with report-writing packages or data extraction software is highly desired. The ability to think analytically and creatively is essential, as is the ability to implement solutions effectively. Ability to work in a standard office environment.
