SRE Leader - 3 Month Contract

OVERVIEW

This is a 3-month contract position within the Developer Experience (DevX) organization. As the interim SRE Manager, you will lead a talented team of Site Reliability Engineers responsible for ensuring reliability, scalability, and performance. You'll maintain and enforce site reliability excellence, implementing established best practices.

*This position requires 3 days per week in the Seattle office.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

• Mentor, and develop a high-performing team of Site Reliability Engineers through coaching, career planning, and creating growth opportunities
• Establish and maintain on-call rotations, ensuring proper coverage while maintaining work-life balance for team members
• Lead and coordinate globally distributed engineering teams across multiple time zones, fostering inclusive collaboration and ensuring alignment through effective communication strategies
• Collaborate with cross-functional leadership to align SRE priorities with broader organizational goals
• Develop and implement best practices, frameworks, and processes across the engineering organization
• Lead incident management programs, ensuring proper response procedures, postmortem analysis, and continuous improvement
• Implement proactive monitoring and observability strategies to detect potential issues before they impact customers
• Create and maintain runbooks and documentation for critical system components and recovery procedures
• Partner with platform and infrastructure teams to design resilient, scalable cloud architecture that supports global operations
• Drive infrastructure-as-code initiatives to ensure consistency and reliability in deployments
• Oversee capacity planning and scaling strategies to handle growth and peak transaction periods
• Champion security best practices within infrastructure design and implementation
• Guide the development of automation frameworks for deployment, testing, and infrastructure management
• Work closely with product and development teams to integrate reliability considerations into the software development lifecycle
• Collaborate with security teams to ensure compliance with financial regulations and security standards across multiple geographies
• Partner with customer service teams to understand the impact of technical issues on customer experience
• Support business continuity planning in cooperation with risk and operations teams
• Represent SRE concerns and initiatives in technical and strategic planning meetings

  QUALIFICATIONS

• 7+ years of experience in site reliability engineering, DevOps, or platform engineering roles, with at least 2 years in a leadership position
• Proven track record of building and managing high-performing technical teams, including hiring, performance management, and professional development
• Experience with team leadership frameworks and ability to adapt management style to individual team members
• Strong conflict resolution skills and ability to manage team dynamics effectively
• Experience establishing and improving engineering processes and methodologies within a team
• Strong technical background in cloud infrastructure (AWS preferred), containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), and CI/CD pipelines
• Experience implementing monitoring, alerting, and observability solutions (Prometheus, Grafana, etc.)
• Proficiency in at least one programming language (Python, Go, Java) and infrastructure-as-code tools (Terraform, CloudFormation)
• Demonstrated experience leading incident response and postmortem processes
• Strong understanding of security principles and compliance requirements within financial services
• Budget management experience and resource allocation skills
• Excellent communication and persuasion skills with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience
