Summary:
The Rollins College Athletics Department welcomes applications for an Assistant Sailing Coach! The assistant coach will work closely with the Varsity Sailing Coach and is responsible for assisting in the coaching of the sailing program including: administrative duties, recruiting, budget management including the purchasing, caring for and keeping an inventory of all equipment. Additional duties may include program management, planning and scheduling practices, games, transportation, meals and public relations.
Primary Responsibilities
- Teach and track the skills of competitive sailing from the fundamentals to the mental aspects necessary for success.
- Continue to improve knowledge of sport, rules and regulations through conventions, clinics, seminars and self-education.
- Responsible for minor repairs of the sailing fleet, work boats and boathouse within scope and expertise; work with facilities management, Director of Sailing and Athletic Director to coordinate other maintenance issues.
- Collaborate with the Athletic Communications liasion in making information available in a timely fashion and in promoting the sailing program.
- Collaborate with the Varsity Sailing Coach and the Office/Travel coordinator in organizing all travel arrangements.
- Organize training and preparation for coaching in practices and regattas as well as equipment and apparel.
- Promote the physical and mental well-being of all program participants
- Maintain communication and cooperate with the sports medicine staff regarding prevention of injuries, rehabilitation and the players' health.
- In collaboration with the Varsity Sailing coach, order and care for and inventory all equipment.
- File eligibility and Rollins/ICSA/SAISA forms in a timely fashion.
- Serve as a good role model for the student-athletes and as a representative of the college.
- Promote the sailing program and its participants through the media, speaking engagements, high school coaches and programs like Alumni Weekend and an alumni competition.
- Work closely with Rollins alumni
- Serve in any capacity as called upon by the A.D. such as participating in department functions/meetings, game management, etc.
Minimum Qualifications & Education:
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited University or College.
- US Sailing Instructor Level 1 Certification is required with four years of competitive sailing.
- Boater Safety Certificate.
- Possess a valid driver’s license, or ability to obtain a Florida driver's license within 30 days of accepting the job, and acceptable motor vehicle record.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Coaching experience at the collegiate level.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Knowledge of and demonstrated success in coaching sailing, recruitment and retention of student-athletes, and excellent teaching and motivation skills.
- Demonstrate the ability to work effectively in the environment of an academically demanding liberal arts institution and abide by all NCAA Division II, ICSA, SAISA and institutional policies.
- Knowledgeable and follow the institution’s sports medicine guidelines.
- Maintain open communication with the athletic trainer and team physician and protect the safety and well-being of their athletes through proper conditioning, skills training and game conduct.
- Certified in CPR, AED and first aid as required by Rollins Athletics.
Work Environment:
- Campus-based, front-facing position.
- This role requires travel to attend competitions and team events. Candidates should be prepared for occasional travel as part of their responsibilities.
- Ability and willingness to work flexible hours associated with intercollegiate athletics, including evenings and weekends during the sports season.
