RN First Assistant

Inova Health System’s Alexandria Hospital is looking for a RN First Assistant to join our team. This role is full-time, days (7am-3pm, M-F).

Responsibilities:

The RN First Assistant provides a safe/therapeutic core by collaborating with surgeons and healthcare teams in performing safe operations with optimal patient outcomes. Practices preoperative nursing and works collaboratively with others while having respect for and an understanding of other clinical disciplines. Utilizes standards, guidelines and pathways for care delivery. Incorporates data and information to continuously improve care and enhance outcomes. Requirements:

• Hours: full-time, days (7am-3pm, M-F)
• Location: Inova Alexandria Hospital
• Education: BSN or AD. If RN has an AD, within 2 years from date of hire, they must meet with their nurse leader and conduct the following: 1.) Identify which accredited school they plan to attend 2.) Provide a written plan with anticipated BSN completion date 3.) Submit a review of transcripts from the school indicating the required pre-requisites and timeline for taking the courses 4.) Complete BSN within 5 years of start date
• Other Education:  Successful completion of an RFNA program that meets AORN recommended education standards for RN First Assistant programs.
• Experience: Five years of Perioperative Nursing experience as both a scrub and circulating nurse, or three recommendations from practicing Surgeons and demonstrated clinical practice in the case of less than five years of experience.
• Licensure/Certifications: Certified Nurse Operating Room, ACLS from the American Heart Association, and Licensed or eligible for licensure in the Commonwealth of Virginia as a Registered Nurse or an active multi-state Registered Nurse license
