Located in
Greater Boston, MassBay is a comprehensive, open-access community college,
offering associate degrees and certificate programs on three campuses in
Wellesley Hills, Framingham, and Ashland, Massachusetts.
Position Summary:
MassBay Community College is seeking a part-time Sociology
faculty member to join the Division of Humanities and Social Sciences and teach
a variety of in-person, first- and second-year Sociology courses, including Introduction
to Sociology and Drugs and Society on site at our Early College high
school partners at Waltham High School, Framingham High School, and Milford
High School.
Early College
Pathways adjunct instructors
must be committed to working with high school-aged students and to teaching
college classes in high schools across the region and/or at one of the MassBay
campus locations. Early College Pathways adjunct instructors will attend an
Early College faculty orientation and participate in ongoing professional
development throughout the year. Please note: Teaching schedules may vary by
school district but are primarily daytime hours between 7:00 am to 4:00 pm,
with some limited availability of late afternoon/early evening or weekend
assignments.
The ideal candidate will
join a vibrant educational community, and have a desire and ability to serve a
population of students with various needs and backgrounds and be
committed to the following college-wide goals: fostering a learner-centered environment that reflects best practices,
establishing rigorous curricula and relevant programs of study to promote
student success, and cultivating a culture of civility, collaboration,
inclusion, and respect for individual differences and perspectives. Our adjunct
instructors hold a master’s degree in a related discipline and have obtained
appropriate certification and/or licensure where applicable.
Faculty are
responsible for developing educational and evaluation materials consistent with
the philosophy and framework of the program, MassBay Community College, and, if
applicable, accreditation, licensure, and specialty requirements, and for
maintaining current expertise in the discipline.
Key Responsibilities and Duties:
- Teach dual enrollment high school students in area high schools, including Framingham, Waltham, and/or Milford;
- Provide instruction during high school hours of operation when necessary;
- Work in collaboration with MassBay and/or high school faculty and others to prepare syllabi and develop curricula in alignment with the vision and needs of the College, high schools and early college initiatives;
- Meet students regularly at the posted class times and teach assigned courses using effective instructional strategies that promote student learning and preparation;
- Use appropriate assessment methods consistently and regularly to measure student understanding in line with accreditation and College standards;
- Engage in professional development activities to learn current practices concerning the education generally and early college initiatives;
- Utilize the appropriate learning management system for either the College or high school as needed;
- Attend meetings and submit reports or information as requested consistent with the provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement;
- Maintain excellent communication with students, department, and division staff throughout the semester;
- Submit syllabi, midterm and final grade reports, attendance records, early alerts, and other reports pertaining to assigned courses by required due dates;
- Carry out other related duties as assigned by the College, high school, and/or early college liaisons consistent with the Collective Bargaining Agreement and college policies, practices, and procedures.
