Senior Superintendent (m/f/d) 3rd Party Management

To strengthen our technical team within the Fleet Management Group in Hamburg, we are looking for an experienced and motivated Senior Superintendent to oversee the technical performance of vessels managed by external third-party providers. In this strategic role, you will act as the key interface between Hapag-Lloyd and external ship managers, ensuring that all technical operations are carried out in line with contractual obligations, regulatory requirements, and our internal standards. You will be responsible for defining and aligning technical budgets and measures, developing owner-focused operational guidelines, and monitoring compliance through regular reporting and performance reviews. Additionally, you will lead the planning and evaluation of vessel inspections and drive the continuous improvement of technical standards, with the ultimate goal of safeguarding the performance, safety, and value of our high-value maritime assets under third-party management.
- Collaborate with management to define, negotiate, and agree on technical budgets
- Establish, discuss, and agree on technical measures for high-value assets
- Develop technical and operational guidance from an ownership perspective
- Review, approve, and confirm costs for maintenance and operational activities
- Define standards for third-party managers and ensure compliance
- Act as the primary technical contact for third-party managers regarding reporting
- Continuously review, evaluate, update, and enhance technical standards and guidelines
- Plan, coordinate, conduct, and assess inspections of vessels managed by third parties
- Completed studies in marine engineering, nautical science, or a comparable maritime discipline, combined with several years of professional experience in ship management, classification, or similar fields. Ideally with experience in overseeing third-party managers
- Alternatively, a completed technical degree with several years of experience in ship management or classification, preferably with third-party management oversight experience
- Strong interest in designing and implementing auditable and reviewable processes within management systems ("manage the manager"), in line with internal and external requirements, including software integration
- Proficiency with ship management software, preferably Sertica
- A committed, performance-driven professional with a pragmatic and thoughtful approach, a team-oriented mindset, and an open, transparent communication style
- Strong analytical skills and experience in resolving technical issues in ship operations
- A solid understanding of cost awareness and economic interrelationships is essential
- Fluent English skills, both written and spoken, with German language skills considered an asset
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office tools (Word, PowerPoint, Teams, Excel), including pivot tables and macro programming. Additional skills in tools such as QlikView, Tableau, or SAP are advantageous
