Hearst Transportation has an opening for an Accountant. : The accountant will contribute to the efficient and effective workings of the Finance Department by executing daily tasks with a careful attention to detail and accuracy. This role will utilize accounting knowledge, time management skills, solid communication skills and effective problem solving. Avalara Administration for Sales and Use tax is expected to require 30%-time requirement for returns and approvals, support tickets, return setup and maintenance, and product setup and maintenance.
What will you do?
- Responsible for month-end close journal entries and procedures with the intent to learn and be assigned your own business units to support.
- Understand the accounting principles as it pertains to the groups you support including all balance sheet and income statement accounts, all leading to the development of the statement of cash flow.
- Ensure all supporting documentation ties out to the corporate ERP system.
- Development of the month-end package of all financial related information for the business unit you support.
- Budgeting, forecasting, and the Five-Year Plan for your assigned units.
- Resolve discrepancies with tax jurisdictions on sales tax collections and reporting, supporting the Avalara sales tax system.
- Record journal entries for monthly cashbook into Oracle general ledger system. Record monthly statistical journal entries for headcount and contingent labor.
- Participate in quarterly and year-end tasks assisting senior accountants with audit requests and tax department reporting requirements.
- Participate in account reconciliations and analysis using Oracle ARCS system and Excel.
- Perform accounts payable duties, including coding invoices as required. Running AP extract reports for multiple units as needed.
- Code monthly Inter-Company transactions for multiple business units.
- Accounts receivable duties including collection calls on overdue accounts.
- Assist in foreign tax return preparation for external tax expert who is responsible for foreign return filing.

- Ability to work with accuracy and within deadlines
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work efficiently with large volumes of transactions
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite with intermediate Excel skills
- Ability to work collaboratively with all levels of staff and external clients as needed
- Ability to work both independently, when remote, and in a team-oriented office environment.
Experience
- 3+ years of accounting experience required
- Experience with Oracle or similar ERP system a plus
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting or related business field
