Dental Assistant / Registered Dental Assistant - Westside Health Center

Working in an integrated team model, the Dental Assistant will assist dentists and perform four-handed chair-side dentistry for the care and treatment of patients. This is a full-time, benefit-eligible position typically working Monday through Friday during the hours of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Positions are available at multiple locations and hours will vary based on location, including occasional evening and Saturday shifts. Dental Assistant / Registered Dental Assistant positions are available throughout the Grand Rapids area, and candidates must be available to work at various locations, as needed.

Starting pay for these positions is listed below, but could be higher based on experience: Dental Assistants:  $17.50 / hour Registered Dental Assistants: $19.50 / hour

Requirements:

• High School Diploma or GED
• Proof of radiology competency set by the State of Michigan 
• Basic Life Support/CPR training according to requirements of license and/or certification
• Previous dental chair-side experience is preferred
• Must be able to work in a team environment and be able to relate to a diverse patient population
• RDA’s must have a current Registered Dental Assistant license from the State of Michigan

Responsibilities:

• Escort patients, prepare them for treatment and provide assistance in the educational and preventive care of proper oral hygiene
• Take dental x-rays
• Assist dentist in performance of procedures using 4 handed dentistry technique
• Set up procedure trays, disinfect equipment, sterilize instruments, equipment maintenance and maintaining a clean and efficient work are through practice of universal precautions
• Maintain patient records and assist in recording patient information
• Take alginate impressions, pour and trim models
• Maintain aseptic environment
• Under the direction of the dentist and after attending all required hospital orientation, a dental assistant may assist the Dentist in dental procedures performed in a hospital operating room
• RDA’s will use their expanded functions as assigned by the licensing board
• Perform other duties as assigned
