We offer a hybrid 3-2 work schedule (three days in the office, two days of teleworking) to accommodate the need for flexibility.

Job Summary

Dominion Energy is seeking an Engineer III candidate to be a part of the Electric Transmission System Operations Center Operations Engineering team specializing in Control Room Synchrophasor Applications. The candidates will be part of a team that supports our system operators and engineers in the Electric Transmission System Operations Center. You will be part of a team with a variety of specializations and skill sets. 

 

We’re looking for a Power Engineering focused team member with experience working with synchrophasor technology, maintaining synchrophasor systems, and applications of synchrophasors within the control room.

 

The System Operations Engineering team has many responsibilities. To name a few:
•    We maintain the Energy Management System model of our electrical transmission network and the external modeling our or neighboring utilities. 
•    We build and maintain displays and applications used by system operators. 
•    We are partnering to build a state-of-the-art synchrophasor based EMS, a very exciting project and first of its kind in the industry that you can be an integral part of.
•    We ensure the reliability and accuracy of our State Estimation and Contingency Analysis tools.
•    We perform extensive testing and quality assurance on our systems and applications.
•    We work to evaluate and implement new technology, comply with new regulations, and act as consultants in our respective areas of expertise both within the SOC and the company as a whole.


Candidates should have a strong electrical engineering background and possess strong knowledge of engineering principles and practices, preferably in electric power systems and/or software development with demonstrated expertise in synchrophasor technology and applications. 
 
Job activities may include:
•    Monitoring and maintaining data quality of synchrophasor streams
•    Configuring and tuning synchrophasor tools and applications
•    Working closely with control room staff to understand their needs and design tools and dashboards to support them.
•    Manage project tasks, delivering quality results on schedule

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

Engineer III: 5+ years relevant engineering experience as described below.

Experience in this position is defined as working in the electric utility industry or related industry (in Transmission System Operations, Substation Engineering, System Protection, Distribution Planning, or Transmission Planning, or related experience) or research engineering work experience on directly related projects for the electric utility industry.  Work on such projects may be accomplished as part of an Electrical Engineering Masters or Ph.D. program on its own or in combination with additional research engineering work experience on directly related projects for the electric utility industry.

Note: A partial year of related work experience of 6 months or greater will be considered one year towards the qualifications. An advanced degree (Master’s or Doctorate) counts towards related experience

Required:
•    Candidate should have a strong electrical engineering background, preferably in electric power systems. Other engineering backgrounds may be considered if presented in combination with a strong electric power background.
•    Understanding of AC/DC circuit analysis fundamentals and three-phase power systems.
•    Strong knowledge of synchrophasor use cases within the industry, performing analytics using synchrophasor data, experience working with PMUs, PDCs,
