Towson University is accepting applications for an Assistant Payroll Supervisor within the Office of Payroll to take full ownership of managing the University’s bi-weekly Regular payroll. This role is responsible for creating and analyzing reports for submission to the Central Payroll Bureau and utilizing expertise in PeopleSoft payroll processing. Telework may be available for this position up to two days per week following the completion of 90 days of service in good standing.

 

Responsibilities and Duties

 
  • Manage all regular payment documents to ensure accurate processing and posting.
  • Manage all supplemental payments including faculty contracts, additional compensation, secondary employment and award payments. These payments could also include negative adjustments.
  • Analyze timesheet reports to identify unapproved timesheets and manage the notification to supervisors.
  • Manage the set up and maintenance of payment spreadsheets used as control system to track biweekly payments due and process data changes.
  • Manage the calculations related to retroactive payment requests and salary advances.
  • Serve as a backup for the Contingent payroll processing.
  • Help to manage daily workflow which must be closely monitored to meet strict payroll processing deadline imposed by CPB. Includes coordinating leave requests, work and lunch schedules to provide sufficient staffing to complete tasks. Provide staff with payroll training, coaching/counseling, and perform periodic performance evaluations.
  • Run payroll processing steps to produce the Gross Pay file processes that ultimately is used to electronically send pay data to Central Payroll Bureau's (CPB) system. Monitor system output, identify errors, diagnose problems and work with Payroll Analyst and/or HR to make appropriate corrections to PeopleSoft to ensure accuracy of data and to resolve system-related problems.
  • Update PeopleSoft payroll processing steps for improvements and changes as needed, particularly after major upgrade.
  • Mange all HR related updates including new hires, pay rate, other changes, and terminations for accurate documentation and processing. Troubleshoot and resolve technical problems and, in conjunction with Payroll Analyst and OTS, assist with testing system upgrades.
  • Supervise the timekeeping specialist who handles time sheets and leave processing for all employees. Make sure that all employees who end their employment have any leave changes made that have been approved by the Leave Administrator.
  • Research problems concerning pay rate changes, retroactive adjustments, stop payment requests, cancelled checks, overtime calculations, W-2 and W-4 forms and address changes. Respond to requests from departments regarding corrections to payroll accounting data. 
  • Serve as a backup for the Payroll Manager.
 

Qualifications and Skills
