The Opportunity

The College of Arts and Sciences Dean’s Office is seeking an Assistant who will provide a range of administrative support to the Dean of the College of Arts & Sciences, the Dean’s leadership team, and the Hull Memorial Fund Committee. This position is a great opportunity to serve as the front-facing, main point of contact for the office. In this role, you will:

  • Answer phones and direct visitors in person, electronically, and via mail correspondence.
  • Maintain an organized and professional appearance of the Dean’s Office Suite.
  • Maintain decorum, discretion, diplomacy and confidentiality.
  • Schedule and coordinate complex logistics for meetings and large-scale events,
    involving departmental, college, and university collaborators.
  • Research and execute complex travel arrangements for the Dean, including researching and reserving travel for multi-stage international and national travel.
  • Process payments, travel reimbursements, maintain inventory of office supplies for the Dean’s Office.
  • Update and maintain multiple contact lists and email listservs.

This is a full-time (39 hours/week) endowed position that is fully on-site in Ithaca, NY. Work hours are 8am to 4:30pm Monday through Friday.

What We Need

We are looking for a team member who is collaborative, willing to learn, has attention to detail and can effectively multi-task. Additionally, you will have: 

  • An Associate’s Degree and 2-4 years’ experience or equivalent combination of education and experience. Courteous, friendly, and professional customer service approach required.
  • Outstanding attendance and punctuality. 
  • Proficiency in standard office software required (e.g., email, word processing, calendaring, Zoom, spreadsheets).
  • Ability to quickly learn and adapt to new office technologies as necessary.
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving skills are necessary.
  • Ability to accurately assess importance of issues and situations and maintain confidentiality. 
  • Exhibit initiative and follow-through on work issues and activities.
  • Ability to complete work in a timely manner, dealing effectively with multiple priorities.
  • Ability to develop effective work relationships, to work productively as a team member, and to complete work independently.
  • Proven ability to communicate clearly and effectively, verbally and in writing.
  • Outstanding organizational skills are required.
  • Experience incorporating the perspectives of multiple communities. 
  • Experience modeling values that support inclusion, belonging, and wellbeing.
  • Ability to cultivate and develop inclusive working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and community members. 


If you possess these experiences and skills this may be the role for you! There are a few other qualifications that we would view as incredibly helpful in this role, to include: 

  • Prefer at least 4 years of related work in an office environment where a high level of productivity, customer service, confidentiality and professional demeanor were required and accomplished.
  • Knowledge of Cornell specific systems such as Outlook Mail, Zoom, EShop, 25Live, Kuali is a plus.
