Position Overview

The School of Music at The Ohio State University seeks to hire a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Music Therapy starting August 15, 2025. The successful candidate will have demonstrated evidence of teaching in higher education and a representative record of professional and clinical experience. The candidate will play a crucial role in the development and oversight of a new undergraduate music therapy program at Ohio State. The successful candidate will be committed to contributing to the intellectual and cultural life of the University, building a diverse and inclusive community in the School of Music.

Performance Objectives

  • Duties include teaching of undergraduate courses in music therapy and other courses in areas of expertise, recruitment and advising of students, coordination and mentorship of students’ clinical work, curricular development, pursuit of professional scholarship, dissemination and publication of scholarly work, and service to the School of Music, the university, and the community.
  • Program Development and Implementation: Lead the development, implementation, and oversight of a new undergraduate music therapy program, including designing and innovating curriculum to meet accreditation standards and align with institutional and professional goals.
  • Teaching and Mentorship: Teach undergraduate courses in music therapy and related areas of expertise, provide academic advising, coordinate students' clinical work, and mentor students to ensure successful preparation for professional practice.
  • Research and Scholarly Contributions: Establish and maintain an active research agenda in music therapy, disseminating findings through peer-reviewed publications and professional presentations.
  • Service and Community Engagement: Participate in service to the School of Music, and reasonable service expectations to the institution and field per the expectations of tenure-track faculty.

Education and Experience Requirements

Required:

  • Master of Music Therapy and a record of three years of full-time professional and clinical experience or comparable part-time experience.
  • Musicianship and performance competence in guitar, voice, and keyboard.
  • Knowledge of current research-based clinical practices in music therapy.

Desired:

  • PhD in Music Therapy or a related field.
  • Established research/scholarly agenda.
  • Record of five years of full-time professional and clinical experience or comparable part-time experience.
  • Demonstrated evidence of successful teaching in higher education.
  • Additional training in specialized areas relevant to the position.
  • Experience in curricular development.
