Responsibilities
Peraton is seeking a Senior System Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position can be worked remotely. The qualified applicant will become part of Peraton’s Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Infrastructure Managed Services (IMS) Program, for the US Coast Guard (CG). This initiative is modernizing and consolidating the operational environment under a common technology framework in order to better support the services provided to CGs customers. As part of the modernization program, the Senior Software Engineer will be responsible for proactively leading architecture and development decision making and work effort across the software development lifecycle (SDLC), and ensuring effective transitions to support for ongoing continuous improvement.
Day to Day Work Responsibilities:
- Define software requirements, both functional and non-functional, as high level epics, features and user stories to support SAFe or other industry standard Agile frameworks.
- Architect complex software systems using a hybrid cloud architecture and microservices.
- Design software using industry standard design patterns and best practices to improve maintainability, flexibility, performance, security, and availability.
- Develop database solutions for managing structured and unstructured data.
- Develop automated unit and integration tests and incorporate them in CI/CD pipelines.
- Create and implement automated configuration and deployment processes to enhance the performance, accessibility, and ease of management of platforms and related services.
- Establish and manage administrator and service accounts, while also maintaining accurate system documentation and effectively resolving technical issues.
- Utilize scripting tools to craft self-service capabilities within the Platform as a Service (PaaS), fostering a seamless developer experience for development teams.
- Collaborate closely with developers and service line owners to diagnose and troubleshoot problems, ensuring smooth operations.

Qualifications
Basic Qualifications:
- Minimum of 8 years with BS/BA; Minimum of 6 years with MS/MA; Minimum of 12 years with High School Diploma/equivalent.
- U.S. Citizenship required; Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
- Expert in Windows Server administration and image creation.
- Proficiency in administering AWS and Azure Gov Cloud environments in compliance with DoD standards.
- Proficient in use of most industry standard Infrastructure as Code (IAC) tools, with strong skills in HashiCorp service components.
- Skilled in developing automation solutions using scripting languages to streamline recurring tasks (e.g. PowerShell, Python BASH and SHELL).
- Familiarity with networking concepts and practical experience involving technologies like Load Balancers, DNS, NACLs, SSL, Firewalls, NAT, and NTP.
- Background in DevOps automation practices, and strong skills in modern application development platforms such as GitLab, Harness, OpenShift, and/or Tanzu.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Direct experience interacting with clients in a proactive manner to achieve goals and objectives.
- Proven ability to troubleshoot operating systems and applications effectively.
- Experience handling large-scale production systems and adeptness in resolving production-related challenges.
- Excellent communication skills, and a keen interest in collaborative work environments.
- Enthusiasm for skill growth, a penchant for tackling intriguing tasks, and addressing complex issues.
- Subject Matter Expertise in Linux Operating Systems administration.
- Expertise in container orchestration, specifically Kubernetes.
- Familiarity with Department of Defense (DoD) operations, particularly within a DoD "Software Factory" context. Commercial Software Factory context is highly valued too.
- A degree (BA/BS) in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- Proficiency in troubleshooting challenges using the Linux/Unix command line interface.
- Familiarity with AKS (Azure Kubernetes Service) and other container management services.
- Possession of recognized Professional Certifications such as RHCE, Linux+, MCSA, AWS Solutions Architect, AWS Developer, and CCNA.
