The Department of Economic Security is seeking an experienced and highly motivated individual to join our team as Occupational Safety Consultant 4. This position is responsible for oversight of properties leased and owned by the Department throughout Arizona. This position is authorized to administer safety inspections, determine appropriate action for violators, complaints, and referrals; and to conduct informal conferences with violators and recommend appropriate action to the Administrator. The Occupational Safety Consultant assists in the management, planning, coordination, and evaluation of the Department’s occupational safety and health program, performing tasks such as providing guidance to DES employees on the evacuation process, overseeing emergency action plan and procedure updates and environmental testing before and after tenant improvements and demolition projects, investigating work environments and safety equipment for conditions of compliance, and enforcing State and Federal Occupational Safety and Health standards, regulations, laws, rules, and codes. This position will be required to travel and/or drive for State business.
This position may offer the ability to work remotely, within Arizona, based upon the department's business needs and continual meetings of expected performance measures.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
• Conduct inspections of DES owned and leased facilities for life safety and environmental compliance with State and Federal Occupational Safety and Health standards, regulations, laws, rules, and codes.
• Prepare inspections reports.
• Routinely review and complete reports on building evacuation policy, evacuation process, annual fire safety evacuation, emergency planning and plan development, and drills and rehearsals.
• Write detailed reports based on studies, research, analysis, and evaluation of data pertaining to assigned risk management projects.
• Respond to requests for information and provide interpretation of requirements set forth in the Occupational Safety and Health Standards, Loss Control rules and regulations, and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulations.
• Review, revise, and/or write policy and operating procedures subject to guidelines set forth by the Administrator, and relevant rules, laws, and regulations.
• Develop and conduct employee training on various Occupational Safety and Health topics.
• Review tenant improvements and construction projects for hazards, investigate sampling history, and scopes of work for abatement vendors and contracts.
• This position will be required to travel and/or driving for State business.
Knowledge of:
• Applicable Federal, State and local laws.
• Regulations governing occupational safety standards, codes, and regulations, such as OSHA and ADOSH standards.
