GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
The purpose of this position is to perform routine administrative, secretarial and clerical work in support of the activities of the Oconee County Legislative Delegation Office.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:

- Serves as a liaison between the citizens, governmental agencies and the three elected state legislatures who represent Oconee County in the South Carolina General Assembly.
- Provides administrative support to the Legislative Delegation, performing such duties as scheduling and coordinating meetings and appointments, composing and/or preparing routine and confidential correspondence, etc.
- Coordinates administrative functions and meetings of the Oconee County Transportation Committee, maintains various boards and commissions to which the Delegation makes appointments and assists constituents and legislators with a variety of tasks.
- Assists in coordinating Delegation activities with those of other departments, agencies, and organizations, as appropriate.
- Prepares, organizes and maintains records regarding the various boards, commissions and agencies in which the Delegation appoints.
- Assists with the preparation of the department’s annual budget; monitors expenditures and prepares related reports.
- Attends meetings; prepares meeting agendas; prepares and distributes meeting minutes.
- Establishes and maintains the department’s filing system.
- Procures and maintains an inventory of supplies and equipment as approved.
- Answers the telephone; provides accurate information to callers and/or forwards calls to appropriate personnel; takes messages as needed; greets and assists office visitors.
- Prepares, types, copies, files, processes, mails and/or transmits various documents, such as forms, correspondence, memos, reports, etc.
- Performs other routine clerical work, including but not limited to copying and filing documents, sending and receiving faxes, entering and retrieving computer data, preparing and processing daily mail, assembling materials, etc.
- Researches legislation, regulations, acts and joint resolutions and other government documents, as needed.
- Assists in maintaining clean and orderly work and public areas.
- Receives and responds to public / customer inquiries, requests for assistance and complaints.
- Provides assistance and guidance to individuals applying for Notary Public Commissions; process all new and renewal Notary Public Commission applications.
- Drafts and distributes press releases on behalf of the Delegation and/or the chairman, as requested.
- Coordinates with Delegation staff in Columbia and other locations, as necessary to relay messages, draft letters and responses and compile information for Delegation members.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Ability to gather, organize, analyze, examine data or information and take action based on such data or information.
- Ability to provide information, guidance or assistance to people to directly facilitate task accomplishment; may give directions or assignments to general public.
- Skilled and proficient with computers and updated software programs, such as word processing, spreadsheets or custom applications.
- Ability to problem-solve and research, study and comprehend state guidelines to effectively complete tasks.
- Ability to perform addition and subtraction, multiplication and division, and/or calculating ratios, rates and percent.
- General understanding of operating policies and procedures and their application to problems not previously encountered; application of specialized professional principles and practices or the use of a wide range of administrative methods in the solution of problems.
- Ability to guide others, requiring frequent decisions affecting co-workers and others who depend on the service or product; works in a somewhat fluid environment with rules and procedures but with many variations from the routine.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Associate’s degree with emphasis in Business, Public Administration, Political Science, Public Relations
