OVERVIEW

The Smithsonian Institution is the world’s largest museum, education, and research complex, with 21 museums and the National Zoo.  This position is in the National Museum of African American History and Culture (NMAAHC). The National Museum of African American History and Culture is a national museum for the study and exhibition of African American history and culture.  

This position is on site at the National Museum of African American History and Culture, telework may be allowed.  Required hours for this position include working days, evenings, weekends, and holidays on changing shifts as required by the museum's public programming and special events calendar.  Overtime may be required.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Serves as Audiovisual Production Specialist and is responsible for supporting live and pre-recorded public programs and special events in the Museum's Oprah Winfrey and Robert F. Smith Family Pavilion theaters and other public performance spaces, including live theatrical productions, panel discussions, music and dance performances, film screenings, interactive educational programs, and Smithsonian community events.  In this position, you will:

• coordinate and support audiovisual productions that highlight the museum's collections, exhibitions, research activities and other initiatives for public programs, special events, fundraising events, educational programs and Smithsonian community events.
• coordinate and engage in all phases of multimedia production ensuring the effective delivery of each program such as audio mixing, camera switching, lighting, technical direction, and production management.
• perform configuration, operation, and maintenance of a variety of hardware and software needed to effectively deliver live special events and programs to the public in-person and online, including live streaming software and video and audio editing software.
• evaluate, assess, and make minor repairs on analog and digital audiovisual equipment and software to support live special events and public programs.
• procure services and equipment and manage contractors for media production services and for upgrades, installation and maintenance of multimedia systems used to support live production in the museum's theaters and public performance spaces.
