The Financial Counselor Rep will be responsible for counseling uninsured and or under-insured pa�ents to atempt to obtain a paying funding source. The Financial Counselor Rep will educate pa�ents on their responsibili�es and poten�al op�ons. The Financial Counselor is responsible for accurately and compassionately explaining to the pa�ent their financial obliga�ons during the financial counseling session. In this role, the successful candidate must display a strong sense of pa�ent care and aten�on to detail. Responsibili�es: Screening & Conversion Ac�vi�es: • Complete a financial screening for uninsured pa�ents and iden�fy financial assistance programs for pa�ents unable to meet their financial obliga�ons. • Contact/check insurance carriers and websites for non-automated eligibility and act as an advocate for the pa�ent. • When limited benefits plans are iden�fied, counsel pa�ents on their insurance benefits and recommend alterna�ve sources of payment and financial assistance when appropriate. • Explain financial responsibili�es for services received, payment op�ons, and point of service collec�ons on procedures to pa�ents or par�es responsible for payment. • Provide assistance to uninsured pa�ents and families in comple�ng and filing Medicaid or assistance program applica�ons with the appropriate agency. • Provide pa�ents and their families support with gathering necessary documents for Medicaid or assistance programs. • Familiar with all funding source op�ons. • Assist in execu�ng Na�onal Financial Counseling team ini�a�ves to promote best in class uninsured pa�ent screenings and conversion ac�vi�es. Inter-Department Collabora�on: • Serve as liaison between Case Management, Clinical Staff, Medicaid Vendor, and Family Independence Agency to assist pa�ents and families in comple�ng assistance program applica�ons and determine eligibility and coverage. • No�fy manager, physician and servicing department of possible delay of service for any elec�ve, non-urgent admissions, procedures and scheduled diagnos�c tes�ng which have not been approved prior to the date of service. • (Optional addition based on role) May be expected to travel to cover nearby facili�es. Required Qualifica�ons: • High school diploma • Excellent customer service and communica�on skills • Aten�on to detail • Ability to mul�-task and navigate between mul�ple systems simultaneously • Ability to quickly develop trust and rapport with pa�ents • Ability to communicate with compassion and authen�city rela�ng to sensi�ve topics Desired Qualifica�ons: • Previous experience as a financial counselor with background in medical terminology preferred • Hospital or relevant healthcare experience a plus • Understanding of State and Federal assistance programs Physical Requirements: See, read, and/or operate computers, telephones, office equipment, documents, labels, including manipulating paper requiring the ability to move fingers and hands. Remain sitting, standing, or walking for long periods of time to perform work on a computer, telephone, or other equipment. Frequent interactions with associates, patient care providers, patients, and visitors that require associate to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergency situations. Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer use and typing for documenting patient care, accessing needed information banding patients, etc. Need to walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients and obtaining and distributing supplies and equipment. This includes pushing/pulling gurneys and portable equipment, including heavy items (over 5 lbs.)
For this US-based position, the base pay range is $14.76 - $22.48 per hour .
