Responsible for the proper billing and charge capture of all billable physician-patient encounters, including monitoring of protocols and report generation as required by the medical center.
1. Develops, implements and monitors operational practices that maintain compliance with Mount Sinai policies, external regulations and audits recommendation while remaining within budgeted resources.
2. Supervise the day to day activities of Billing staff to maintain timely and accurate account management. Perform timely follow-up on problems with patient accounts.
3. Hires, trains, coaches, disciplines and evaluates staff to ensure smooth operations.
4. Consistently supports compliance by maintaining the privacy and confidentiality of information and adhering to applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations
5. Develops implements and evaluates performance indicators for staff members. Identifies additional training needs and monitors performance against established indicators. Participates in grievance meetings with union and Personnel.
6. Reviews internal controls to ensure proper billing of services within established time frames and guidelines. Develops production schedules to ensure proper staffing and production levels are maintained. Monitors, reviews and communicates billing procedures with support staff.
7. Monitors billing accuracy and timeliness to identify appropriate corrective actions, training and systems modifications.
8. Develops methodology necessary to identify all billable physician patient encounters and performed procedures.
9. Implements billing procedures and closely monitors accuracy of billing data submitted. Reviews of hospital admissions list to identify patients that fall within Medicare, 72 hour rule.
10. Reviews patient charges and other medical records to capture all billing. Resolves patient and customer complaints as necessary.
11. Researches patient demographics to track on system.
12. Performs data entry of billing information into system when necessary.
13. Meets with physicians regularly to discuss billing and chart documentation. Makes recommendations and changes to current processes to capture billable data.
14. Engages in performance appraisal and counseling process on subordinate personnel and participates in the interview process.
15. Tracks all staff time off and provides coverage for all billing personnel
16. Analyzes and distributes monthly and quarterly Faculty Practice reports. Provides timely management reports to senior leadership.
17. Keeps abreast of state and federal regulations governing reimbursement and departmental regulations, legal issues relating to inpatient and outpatient services
18. Performs other related duties.
