Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant - 24/7-CVS ICU Hospitalist

The cardiovascular surgery NP/PA hospitalists work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team, including surgeons, critical care anesthesiologists, fellows, nurses, respiratory therapists, and others to provide 24/7 coverage managing high acuity patients in the CVS ICU. The inpatient role requires timely assessments, interventions, interpretation of diagnostic tests, and management of acute and chronic medical conditions. Patient and family education about recovery and disease process is also a crucial part of the health promotion for the patients.

The patient population that the NP/PAs manage includes adult CV surgical, heart/lung transplant, and device patients (VA/VV ECMO, RVAD/LVAD, IABP) located in the ICU. Working alongside talented surgeons and critical care anesthesiologists, this diverse patient population provides you the opportunity to hone your skills into a specialty area and promote continuous learning as you care for these high acuity patients. Shifts are 13-hour day/night rotation with 15-17 self-scheduled weekends per year, 2 assigned holidays per year, and no call responsibility. The ability to pick your own schedule allows for valued time off for personal pursuits, development, and life/work balance.
There are abundant opportunities for continued professional growth within our large cardiovascular surgery APP team. Teaching with the education committee, publishing or performing research with the professional development committee, and/or participating in practice improvements are all possibilities. The leadership team and coworkers will encourage you to participate in education, research, quality and high-level patient care. Ideal candidates would have a continuous desire to learn and develop as a cardiovascular surgery advanced practice provider.
Masters prepared graduate of an accredited school of nursing and Nurse Practitioner program. Current Minnesota RN license and certification, or eligible to be certified, as a:
- Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner Certification (AGACNP or ACNPC-AG)
- Family Nurse Practitioner Certification (FNP)
Or graduate of accredited Physician Assistant program with current PA certification by NCCPA and registration as a PA by the Minnesota State Board of Medical Practice.
Registration with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) is required. Certain specialty positions may require additional advanced certification (BLS, ACLS, ATLS, etc.)
Previous experience preferred but not required however inpatient graduate rotations at minimum are required.
