The Hospital President is responsible for the strategic leadership, growth, and operational oversight of one or more medium and/or large hospitals; specifically the innovation of practices; safety, quality and compliance of patient care; community outreach and population health; financial accountability; medical staff relations; leading and developing high functioning teams; and achieving the mission and performance standards of the hospital(s), as measured against approved goals and objectives established by the Bon Secours Mercy Health (BSMH) Executive Leadership Council. May also oversee the strategic operations of Critical Access, rural and/or small hospital(s).

Essential Functions

  • Utilizing a blend of strategic and operational leadership, the Hospital President leads the development and implementation of business plans for programs and services of assigned facilities.

  • Actively recommends, plans and implements innovations to the organization that improve results and drive engagement of patients, families, customers, employees, providers and the local community; based on timely and ongoing evaluation of operational results.

  • Leads the hospital’s strategic efforts aimed at maximizing third party reimbursement by continually driving quality improvements, improving patient outcomes, and implementing strategies to improve the patient experience.

  • Ensures adherence to the Ethical and Religious Directives for Catholic Health Care Services, and compliance with all regulations governing health care delivery and the rules of accrediting bodies, by continually monitoring the operations of the hospital(s) and proposing changes when required.

  • Participates in establishing the operational budget for the hospital(s) in collaboration with the Financial Officer and Senior Leadership team; and ensures that revenue goals, cost objectives, and market share targets are achieved in assigned facilities.

  • Optimizes the utilization and availability of resources, including people, capital and knowledge to achieve the objectives of the organization while fostering a culture of trust, high reliability, safety and quality. Provides input to staffing and resource planning in direct and indirect reporting departments as they affect operations of the facility.

  • Represents the hospital(s) and the BSMH ministry as appropriate in relationships with governmental agencies, professional or trade associations, partners, competitors, elected officials, fund raising entities, other providers, and other similar external groups.

  • Works extensively with the medical staff, especially through medical executive committees and medical department leaders, as a means of enhancing clinical services and ascertaining the appropriateness and quality of hospital services to respond to patient needs. Confers with the medical staff in the areas of medical quality assurance and utilization to ensure mutual understanding of expectations and to obtain ideas to further progress in meeting the BSMH mission.

  • Develops the talent of the organization in direct reporting relationships and across Shared Services teams who work in the hospital(s); effectively attracts, mentors, and develops future leaders of BSMH and Catholic Health Care.

  • Ensures that the responsibility, authority and accountability of all direct reports are defined and understood in a manner consistent with the organization’s focus and direction.

REQUIRED:

- Bachelor's Degree

- A minimum of 10 years of experience in health care leadership (ie: acute care hospital, medical center, integrated delivery system), dependent upon the volume and complexity of the assigned hospital(s).

- Demonstrated results in applying strategic and analytical ability to conceptualize and implement short and long-term plans and goals of a large organization in a highly complex operational environment.

- Background in operations leadership with results in operational improvement.

- Ability to articulate a working knowledge of the major financial, regulatory, compliance, ethical, and legal issues affecting the healthcare industry.
