Assistant Attorney General
Position Overview
Join the Special Litigation Section (SLS) of the Office of the Arkansas Attorney General (OAG) and engage in some of the most challenging and significant civil litigation in the state. This position focuses on protecting and upholding Arkansas laws and the Constitution. Recent high-profile cases managed by SLS include defending school choice through the LEARNS Act—considered to be among the most significant conservative education reforms in the country; upholding social media legislation that protects minors from harmful content; preserving election integrity; protecting the public from dangerous drugs like Delta-8; and strengthening the criminal justice system by defending laws that are ending the state’s longstanding catch-and-release approach to criminal prosecution. Specific issues litigated include Constitutional challenges involving Equal Protection, Due Process, preemption, freedom of speech, and the opportunity to litigate matters of first impression.
As a member of SLS, you will:
- Experience a dynamic, fast-paced work environment;
- Defend constitutional laws passed by the state legislature;
- Provide legal representation and advice to Arkansas officials, agencies, departments, boards, and commissions; and
- Engage in high-level decision and strategy sessions to tackle urgent and complex legal issues.
Ideal Candidate Profile
- Possesses superior research, writing, and oral-advocacy skills;
- Experienced in managing an active caseload;
- Thrives in a collaborative, interdisciplinary team environment;
- Practiced in federal courts; and
- Skilled in handling constitutional and complex litigation matters.
Minimum Requirements
- Law degree from an accredited law school.
- License to practice law in Arkansas or the ability to quickly obtain an Arkansas license.
Preferred Qualifications
- Five or more years of litigation experience.
- Judicial clerkship.
