Job Description

Position Summary
Assists with maintaining and providing safe and reliable gas transportation. Assists with the installation of large or unusual construction jobs which include the design, fabrication, and installation of the necessary piping, meters, regulators, and other devices such as security valves, control lines, valves, strainers, etc. Assists with investigating, identifying and repairing gas leaks on company piping systems and respond promptly to reports of escaping gas and malfunctioning appliances. Assists with CO investigations, and various types of maintenance and construction work on company facilities and instruments. Responsible for maintaining and adhering to WG Engineering and Operating standards. Operates company vehicles.

Tasks and Responsibilities
• Job assignment responsibilities:
• Assists with the purging with nitrogen of all large welded house lines on market enhancement and new business jobs before gas is introduced to the system.
• Has responsibility for overall safety of job site situations, including limited and restricted spaces;
• Assists with and ensures the safe operation of gas utilization equipment; provides minor adjustments to and otherwise makes safe malfunctioning appliances and appliance conversions (propane);
• Assists with the safe removal of mercury seal regulators from customer premises.
• Assists the Safety & Environment area with mercury spill incidents.
• Assists with the operation and maintenance of the “tank truck” and “tube trailer”;
• Assists in the installation and maintenance of meters and regulators.
• Assists higher-graded employees in other duties as assigned.
• Uses special equipment (fire extinguisher, first aid, etc.)
• Performs regular and scheduled maintenance/construction on company facilities/customer premises:
• Customer/Company facilities is defined as, but not limited to:
• Gas mains, EMSL, services, risers, valves, shutoffs, meters, regulators (operators/monitors);
• Regular and scheduled maintenance is defined as, but not limited to:
• Assists with the removal of meters, turn offs, conducts leak investigations, grade and detection survey and miscellaneous meter work.
• Assists with the connection of house-line to meter build-ups, (copper, steel, corrugated steel and extended meter supply lines), sets and adjusts regulator and install meter;
• Assists with checks and verifying pressure on “Big Joe” regulator. Changes regulator when necessary;
• Assists with checking, cleaning, adjusting and rebuilds monitor/regulators for compliance;
• Assists with insulating meter build-ups, valve inspections, tightening, adjusts and repairs leakage;
• Maintains awareness of construction related activities in areas of WG facilities for damage prevention purposes; or the many hazardous conditions normally found in new construction of large buildings and remodeling of old buildings, shopping centers and projects.
• Interprets company records:
• Maintains ability to read and interpret company records, including, but not limited to, the following:
• SRC’s, quad maps, SmallWorld, field notes, map book, etc.;
• Maintains ability to interpret Dispatcher’s information when relayed verbally; and
• Maintains knowledge of Miss Utility laws and operation of One-Call Center.
• Communicates effectively via Radio/CAD unit:
• Communicates professionally and uses proper terminology while representing WG
• Maintains good rapport with customers. Maintains the Company’s positive reputation.
• Operates the following Tools, as needed:
• Power tool: drills, cutters, saws, etc;
• Hand excavating tools; and
• Maintains awareness and follows proper procedures when excavating near other utilities.
• Stocks and equips company vehicle:
• Orders materials needed for daily activities;
• Secures and stores materials safely (including loading);
• Disposes of excess debris / materials properly and in accordance with WG policy and procedure;
• Keeps vehicle clean and orderly; and
• Follows guidelines for returning damaged material.
• Maintains tools, equipment/instruments:
• Inspects, tests and documents findings for; CGI, fire extinguisher, PPE, bonding cables, Jerome meters, etc.

In addition to the activities described above, employees can be assigned to related business support and administrative activities (ex., dispatch integration activities, peer safety observations, vehicle clean-out, cross functional training activities, etc.)
