Senior LVN Neurology

JOB SUMMARY

The LVN utilizes the nursing process to assess and identify the individual needs of patients through observation of disease symptoms, emotional state, laboratory reports, cultural and socio economic background and response to medical regimen and treatment. The position will report to the practice manager and clinically under the direction of the RN manager, s/he will assist with including but not limited to: medication prep, medication authorization, patient coordination, review of new patient referrals, triage provider in basket messages, and assist with rooming patients as needed.

This individual will utilize his/her good customer service and communication skills on a daily basis via phone/electronic contact, mail correspondence, and personal contact with both internal and external customers.  This employee will utilize computer skills in ApeX and other UCSF computerized programs. This individual supports the standards of the policies and procedures of the practice, and is responsible for maintaining current knowledge of pharmacology and competency in modes of administration, and complies with all Ambulatory Services and Medical Center policies and procedures for infection control, safety, and administrative and clinical practice.  S/he is required to adhere to the Telephone and House Standards as adopted by the Medical Center, as well as demonstrating UCSF’s PRIDE values and the AIDET fundamentals of communication in all patient care and stakeholder interactions.

1. Identifies the needs and responses of patients to medical regimen and treatment through observation of symptoms, emotional state, and cultural -socioeconomic backgrounds..

2. Recognizes and reports specific physical and emotional conditions/needs/concerns of the patient to appropriate members of the health care team.  Alerts a provider of unusual observations of patients to facilitate immediate attention, e.g. chest pain, shortness of breath.

3. Learns how to respond in a code blue scenario and understands use of emergency equipment.
