Your impact:
Handshake is hiring a Business Operations Manager, focused on Job Marketplace Growth, to partner with our Product teams on strengthening our position today as the No.1 job marketplace for early talent, and our mission to become the best career network for GenZ. Our business goal: 10X the early talent jobs (and beyond) as well as their hiring outcomes on Handshake’s marketplace.
Business Operations is focused on identifying the biggest growth opportunities and driving fast decision making cycles to execute on them, across our product areas and company north stars - from user engagement, monetization to marketplace outcomes.
This role will partner daily with our product and R&D teams, supporting the planning, measurement, and decision-making cycles around strategic priorities to land the impact. You will own our marketplace northstar metrics (jobs posted, qualified applicants, and attributable hires), deeply understand the dynamism of supply and demand (students and employers), analyze major drivers to help inform our short- and long-term roadmaps.
You will be a voice in every sprint, business review, and strategy meeting. You will meet regularly with our Chief Product Officer, CFO and CTO. Your work will be used by individual engineers and by Handshake’s leadership team and board of directors.
Your Role:
- 0 to 1 Establishing Growth Levers: maximizing students who apply to jobs, and jobs with qualified candidates; optimizing the trade-off between organic and paid impressions; increasing job liquidity on marketplace, as well as understanding and attributing more hiring results to our marketplace
- Planning & Roadmap Prioritization: Assess opportunities and impacts for decision-making, collaborate with product and R&D teams to guide priorities at squad, sprint, and feature levels
- Measurement and Business Reviews: Define and support key metrics, breaking down strategic metrics into actionable subsets for each sub-team. Contribute to OKR setting and track performance, sharing insights to inform next steps
- Strategic Decision-Making: Provide analyses for key product decisions, such as new launches and pivots. Use data to form opinions and make recommendations that help drive consensus
Your Experience:
The ideal candidate will bring a data-driven, problem-solving mindset and a passion for optimizing marketplace dynamics. You will be comfortable analyzing complex data, driving growth initiatives, and working across teams to implement your insights.
Specifically, candidates should have proven experience in:
- Marketplace Growth Background: Experience driving marketplace matching outcomes, balancing supply and demand sides from a business strategy perspective
- Technical Analytics: SQL fluency and data acumen in still-developing big data environments
- Data Informed Decision Making: Proven experience in using data to support both product and overall business decisions, directly with business leaders and wider product teams. Including the ability to translate data into key insights for leadership through presentations or memos.
- Problem-solving in ambiguity: Ability to break down ambiguous problems into its components, in a logical and comprehensive manner, initiating and driving impactful solutions accordingly
- Driving impact cross-functionally: self-driven, able to build collaborative stakeholders relationships and able to prioritize the most impactful work
Requirements for the role:
- 4-6 years of experience in finance, consulting, or high growth tech
- Previous experience in Analytics, Biz Ops, Finance, or another similar role where they used analytics and data in high level of ambiguity to guide decision making and inform strategy
- BS degree in Finance, Statistics or Economics or relevant degree
- At least one example of end-to-end ownership of a larger-scale descriptive analysis which drove a squad/team-level initiative and/or roadmap
Required skills:
- Data analysis: Highly analytical and data driven, with an excellent proficiency in Excel, SQL, and data visualization tools
- Concise and compelling communications: Ability to summarize insights from data concisely using reports and charts and through written and oral communication
- Structured problem-solving: ability to break down ambiguous business problems into its components, in a logical and comprehensive manner
