Senior Medical Director, Organ Health Strategy

 

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Senior Medical Director, Organ Health Strategy is a key leadership role within Natera’s Organ Health Medical Affairs team. This individual is responsible for shaping and executing strategies that integrate Natera's transplant and renal genetic testing solutions into routine patient care across kidney, heart, and lung transplantation, as well as nephrology. The Senior Medical Director provides high-level cross-functional leadership across R&D, Commercial, Clinical Operations, and Business Development to ensure strategic alignment, medical excellence, and market impact. This role also serves as a senior ambassador to key external stakeholders and KOLs, furthering Natera's reputation as a leader in precision medicine for organ health.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide strategic medical leadership across clinical domains within the Organ Health business unit, focusing on transplant and renal genetics.

  • Collaborate with senior leadership to define and drive BU-level objectives, ensuring alignment with Natera’s broader mission and market goals.

  • Guide the medical director team on execution of initiatives and best practices, fostering a high-performing, innovation-driven culture.

  • Represent Natera externally in meetings with KOLs, scientific forums, advisory boards, and clinical collaborators; deliver presentations at national and international symposia.

  • Support development of educational content and clinical materials for use in webinars, symposia, and other scientific engagements.

  • Partner with Commercial, Marketing, and Clinical Ops to drive the commercialization strategy of Natera’s renal and transplant products.

  • Provide clinical guidance on operational workflows, physician and patient support, and result interpretation.

  • Advise on new product development initiatives, including identifying unmet needs, intended use definitions, test design, report content, and validation requirements.

  • Contribute to and lead publication strategy, including drafting manuscripts and abstracts, and supporting investigator-initiated studies.

  • Collaborate with Clinical Trial Operations and Translational Research to support clinical studies and ensure study design aligns with medical strategy.

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with external partners and internal stakeholders, including R&D, Regulatory, Business Development, and Legal.

PHI ACCESS & COMPLIANCE:

This role requires regular access to Protected Health Information (PHI), both electronic and paper. Employees must:

  • Complete training on HIPAA/PHI privacy, general compliance, and security within 30 days of hire.

  • Maintain current training status in accordance with Natera’s compliance policies.

  • Successfully pass a post-offer criminal background check.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • MD, DO, or equivalent advanced medical degree required; specialty in nephrology, transplant medicine, or genetics preferred.

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a related field, including at least 2 years in a leadership capacity.

  • Proven track record of scientific publication, strategic planning, and KOL engagement.

  • Experience in diagnostics, biotech, medical affairs, or clinical development preferred.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead complex, multi-stakeholder projects with minimal oversight.

  • Deep understanding of transplant medicine, renal genetics, clinical research, and diagnostics.

  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills with the ability to engage audiences ranging from internal stakeholders to scientific leaders.

  • Strong strategic thinking, cross-functional leadership, and project management capabilities.

  • High scientific and ethical standards, with a strong commitment to evidence-based medicine.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Duties are typically performed in an office or remote setting.

  • Must be able to use a computer keyboard, communicate over the phone, and read printed and digital materials.

  • Availability to work outside normal business hours (evenings and weekends) as needed for scientific or medical affairs commitments.
