Salary range: $30.04 - $41.23 per hour
Job Description
The Senior Consumer Loan Underwriter role analyzes and makes decisions on consumer lending requests consistent with STCU policies and product details within lending authority limits. This position works independently while also providing support to other underwriters on more complex requests.
Core Job Requirements/Outcomes
- Underwrite a high volume of consumer loan requests by analyzing credit reports, making sound lending decisions and identifying where the Credit Union may be at risk. Mitigate risk by staying current on industry trends and Credit Union risk tolerances within established lending authority.
- Demonstrate full proficiency and knowledge of consumer lending underwriting guidelines and maintain compliance with all regulatory standards by staying up to date on applicable guidelines, policies, and procedures.
- Solve problems and exercise sound judgement while balancing risk by reviewing and analyzing complex loan requests, tax analysis, and lending exceptions to determine suitability for the STCU portfolio.
- Ensure department goals are met by supporting a cohesive and consistent team dynamic; mentoring, training, and assisting coworkers; and assisting in reporting and tracking.
Other Essential Functions
- Act as a senior member of the underwriting team by providing key feedback, mentoring, and training to loan officers, processors, and other underwriters when needed.
- Prepare and submit monthly production reports to the Consumer Underwriting Assistant Manager.
- Analyze and present credit requests in excess of delegated lending authority (manager level and above) to appropriate individual for review.
- Participate and/or consult on departmental or organizational projects that contribute to the evolvement of STCU’s culture and strategic vision and/or achievement of goals.
Qualifications
Education: High school diploma required. Some college preferred.
Job Experience: Minimum of five years’ experience in consumer loan underwriting required. Previous experience coaching, mentoring, and training required.
Software Skills: Proficient knowledge of MS Office programs including Outlook, Word, Excel and Teams.
Physical Demands: Must be able to regularly talk, hear and operate a computer, keyboard and mouse and occasionally lift, pull/push and carry up to 10 pounds with accommodations.
Work Conditions: Position requires that you can work remotely efficiently. Exposure to constant or intermittent sounds at a low or moderate level consistent with an office setting. Exposure to high-stress, fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment
