Roles & Responsibilities:
The Scientific Computing and Data group at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai partners with scientists to accelerate scientific discovery with the overarching goal of improving clinical care. To achieve these aims, we support a cutting-edge high-performance computing and data ecosystem along with MD/PhD-level support for researchers. The group is composed of a high-performance computing team, the research clinical data warehouse team and a research data services team.
The Senior Project Manager will actively lead, plan and direct strategic projects for Scientific Computing & Data. These Sinai-specific and NIH-funded projects are at the intersection of computer, computational and data science and biomedical translational research and the incumbent will effectively communicate to all stakeholders. The incumbent will be fluent in modern project management best practices, techniques, and software. Specific duties are listed below.
- Directs and drives the progress and deliverables for national, regional, and local projects.
- Ensures that projects are completed on scope, schedule, and budget.
- Develop and maintain up-to-date project plans and tracks milestones, deliverables, and change requests.
- Keeps track of many simultaneous and diverse projects/action items simultaneously.
- Manage coordination between multiple teams on same project to ensure synergy between teams
- Prepares strategic plans, roadmaps, reports, presentations, and other documents for senior leadership.
- Proactively communicates with and manages the expectations of all stakeholders including senior leadership. Tailor communication approach, types, and message based on audience (senior leaders, team members, other stakeholders).
- Set up project meetings, distribute meeting notes and follow on actions items
- Implement and document department standard operating procedures and processes, and recommend process improvements
- Troubleshoots issues and proposes solutions to ensure constant progress and project completion.
- Ensures appropriate use of common sense, traditional, modern Agile, Software
- Development Life Cycle practices, management methods and software tools.
- May oversee other project managers.
- Performs related duties as assigned or requested.
- Bachelor degree in Computer Science or a related discipline; PMP and Master’s degree preferred
- 10 years of diverse experience in multiple areas of technology and/or in a specific basic or translational science with at least five years as a project manager
- Strong preference for experience working with researchers, clinicians, computer, data and computational scientists and senior leadership
- Experience with managing all stages of the software development lifecycle (SDLC), from project initiation, design, development, delivery, and operational support
- Strong proficiency with project management tools including JIRA and Confluence.
- Strong interpersonal skills to build relationships with stakeholders, and internal and external teams
- The ability to work effectively as a liaison between both basic science researchers, healthcare, technology, senior leadership, and vendor teams
- Demonstrated excellence in the creation of traditional project plans, the creation of diagrams, presentations, and other relevant documentation
- Demonstrated experience and training in an Agile methodology, preferably as a scrum master, team lead, or similar
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to tailor messages to different audiences
- Use analytical ability, strong judgment, and management skills to troubleshoot and find paths forward
- Ability to understand and explain technical details
- Highly-organized and detail-oriented: ability to keep track of many simultaneous projects and action items
- Assertive, goal- and task-oriented
- Energetic and able to motivate team members
- Experience driving projects successfully and consistently to conclusion on scope, schedule and budget
