Business Analyst I (Must have Utility background)

Overview of Role/Job Purpose:

The Business Analyst I is an entry-level role responsible for supporting data-driven decision-making across the organization. Working closely with cross-functional teams—including Product, Customer Success, and Engineering—the Business Analyst I gathers and analyzes business data, identifies trends, and helps improve operational efficiency and product performance. This role is ideal for someone with strong analytical skills and a passion for technology and SaaS business models.

Essential Job Duties:

• Collect, clean, and analyze data from internal systems (e.g., CRM, product usage, billing platforms).
• Troubleshoot software issues and perform root cause analysis. Analyze and document workarounds to software issues.
• Knowledge of dashboards and reporting tools such as Power BI
• Attend meetings for new product features, client meetings, and working sessions.
• Partner with programmers and project team to review business requirement documents, communicate business objectives, and answer any questions on the business requirement documents.
• Document business processes and workflows to support process improvement initiatives.
• Assist in ad hoc analysis and reporting requests from clients or internal requests..
• Organize and prioritize assigned tasks using VertexOne’s ticketing system.
• Detailed documentation skills with the ability to translate a technical issue into business terms.

Required Skills/Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Economics, Data Analytics, or a related field preferred
• At least 1 to 2 years of experience in a business analyst, data analyst, or similar role (internships included).
• Familiarity with SaaS business models and key performance indicators.
• Proficiency in Excel and data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI, Looker).
• Basic knowledge of SQL or willingness to learn.
• Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to develop client relationships.
• Advanced organizational skills.
• Ability to manage multiple responsibilities, while effectively focusing on priority issues
• Advanced communication skills(written, reading comprehension, listening, verbal)
• Ability to collaborate team player.
• Knowledge of utilities or similar industry.
• Ability to apply business process knowledge to software product concepts.
• Understanding of database principles and control files
