Job Summary:

As a Physical Plant Supervisor I, you will play a vital role in maintaining and improving our Central Office locations. You will be responsible for planning and directing the work of inmate crews. This includes overseeing general facility maintenance and construction projects. Your expertise will help ensure that our operations run smoothly and efficiently.

Job Duties:

-Performs and oversees minor to difficult tasks in maintenance, repair, and replacement activities involving electrical, plumbing, carpentry, welding, painting, masonry, heating and cooling
-Performs basic preventative maintenance, arranges for periodic services and repairs
-Supervises, plans, and directs the activities of inmates
-Trains inmates on procedures and work processes
-Transports inmates to/from various work sites
-Maintains and executes the key control policy for the central office by issuing keys and maintaining key logs
-Coordinates work requests with staff, vendors, and peers
-Performs inventory of tools, equipment, and materials
-Produces management information and project reports, drafts, and letters/memos
-Attends staff meetings and trainings as required
-Drives on State business
-Performs other duties appropriate to the assignment

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

Knowledge of:
-Principles and techniques of supervision, employee relations, and work scheduling
-Common and specialized tools, equipment, and materials
-Methods and practices involved in replacing, installing, and repairing locks and security systems
-National and local building codes
-Structural issues regarding building and utility service systems, including blueprints, safety practices, and codes


Skill in:
-Methods and practices of preventive maintenance, repair, remodeling, and construction
-Estimating, costing, and ordering materials
-Reading blueprints, sketches, and schematics
-Verbal and written communication
-Establishing and maintaining interpersonal relationships

Ability to:
-Lift/Carry 50lbs
-Push/Pull 50lbs
-Walk/Run 0.25 miles
-Develop positive working relationships
-Repair and install locks and security systems
-Work around and supervise inmates
-Work in a correctional setting

Selective Preference(s):

-Inmate control and supervision experience
-Experience in a formal trade, such as an electrician, plumber, or carpenter
-30-hour Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) certification

Pre-Employment Requirements:

Employment is contingent on the selected applicant passing a background investigation, drug test, and a medical/physical examination.

Any employee operating a motor vehicle on State business must possess and retain a current, valid class-appropriate driver’s license, complete all required training, and successfully pass all necessary driver’s
