The Vulnerability Management team is responsible for the assessment and remediation of threats and vulnerabilities affecting the attack surface of Cruise’s information systems. The technical environment at Cruise is broad and diverse, containing numerous different technical ecosystems that require evaluation and follow-up.

To secure our uncharted attack surface and keep pace with Cruise’s projected growth, Vulnerability Management needs a highly-technical leader to help guide a team of engineers as they design, build, deploy, operate, and maintain systems and services – with an eye toward automated vulnerability identification, tracking and remediation.

You should be excited to solve hard problems, employ your exceptional communication skills, and lead and mentor others. You should possess extensive experience in vulnerability management, and be the one who stands out on your team as a top performer, innovator and leader.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Providing technical guidance and leadership to junior and senior security engineers, and delivering on engineering initiatives centered on automated vulnerability identification, tracking and remediation.

  • Serving as the ultimate escalation point for identified issues, accurately gauging their severity and potential impact. This will require strong technical knowledge and experience across a variety of domains and technologies, from cloud security to application security to network architecture.

  • Developing and communicating a compelling strategy and roadmap.

  • Embedding in the business to proactively identify projects that would affect Cruise’s overall defensive posture, and prepare initiatives to mitigate or compensate appropriately.

  • Measuring, reporting and presenting on your team’s performance against engineering objectives and operational SLAs.

What you must have:

  • Strong understanding of vulnerabilities, contextual risk, and remediating vulnerabilities at scale in a fast-paced environment

  • Exceptional communication skills - particularly around articulating risk to stakeholders up to the executive level

  • Ability to program in one or more modern programming languages (Go, Python, Javascript)

  • Infectious enthusiasm for configuration management and automation

  • First principles and data-driven approach to making incremental changes and implementing them safely

  • Familiarity with endpoint security tooling and strategies

  • Action oriented, analytical, troubleshooter, problem solver, motivator

Bonus Points!

  • Contributions to community projects (open source, public research, blogging,
    presentations, etc)

  • Familiarity with network protocol internals

  • Experience with Azure, AWS, and GCP

  • Experience explaining vulnerabilities to non-technical leadership

  • Passionate about self-driving technology and its potential impact on the world

The salary range for this position is $193,400 - $284,200. Compensation will vary depending on location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. You may also be offered a bonus, restricted stock units, and benefits. These ranges are subject to change.
