Trimble is recruiting for an exceptional Senior Software Engineer in Test. The
Software Engineer in Test (SET) is a technical leader working cross-functionally across the engineering and validation teams quantifying and mitigating risks in the software development process with a focus on the Positioning, Control, and Commissioning (PCC) space. In this role, the individual will work to verify that the internal logic of the Guidance, Navigation, and Control (GNC) software meets the product quality requirements and evaluate the readiness of machine control software as much as possible in the simulation environment before proceeding to the final leg of on-machine validation.
Primary responsibilities include the candidate will work closely with PCC product delivery teams, simulation teams, alpha testers, and global testers to:
conduct performance risk analysis to determine if GNC software meets design specification and falls within the boundary conditions
develop analysis tools to identify and assess the severity of risks
design simulation environment to measure the impact of each risk
define software test requirements to evaluate GNC software modules and related APIs
drive testing infrastructure to quickly catch and reduce or eliminate the bugs
reduce or eliminate on-machine regression testing through automated mechanisms
ensure the GNC software adheres to robust design, verification, and testing principles
deliver a near bug free GNC software for machine validation
The individual must be able to work independently and with testing personnel to plan and execute GNC’s risk-based product testing and conduct other duties as required and requested by the management. Expected travel for this position is less than 5% of the time.
Required Skills / Qualifications:
At least 5 years of experience as a Software Engineer, a Software Engineer in Test, QA, or equivalent roles
In-depth knowledge of design, verification, and validation principles for software development
Experience with MATLAB / Simulink model-based software development
Experience with Programming Languages: C++, Python
Experience with Simulation-based testing and Systems integration-based testing
Experience with Continuous Integration systems: Jenkins, GitHub
Attention to details and strong organizational skills
Possess effective analytical and problem-solving skills
Desirable Skills / Qualifications:
Experience with software development of real-time embedded products
Experience with analyzing/debugging complex systems in production level environment
Demonstrated experience of MATLAB / Simulink scripting and tool development for control system development with interest in software verification and testing
Working knowledge of use of Inertial Measurement Units, GNSS, and real-time electro hydraulic control systems for development of advanced guidance, navigation, and control solutions in off-road environments is a big plus
The CTCT division (a joint venture between Trimble and Caterpillar) develops positioning, control and automation products for earthmoving and paving machines in the construction and mining industries, using technologies such as GNSS, optical total stations, lasers and sonics.
