We are currently looking for a:
Sea Life Park - Hawaii - Senior Animal Trainer
Roles & Responsibilities:
Roles & Responsibilities:
Carry out the basic functions while ensuring the health and safety of the animals, employees and guests.
Oversees and teaches less experienced staff proper husbandry procedures, training methods, safety guidelines and show performance and quality.
Ability to proficiently perform all duties of an Animal Trainer level position.
Ensures top quality care and attention for the well-being of each animal.
Assists with proper staffing of animal areas through effective scheduling.
Assists management with coordinating and preparing reviews of departmental employees.
Develops and implements new animal procedures as directed by departmental management.
Recognizes and reports to management potential behavior problems and implements a plan to correct.
Successfully acclimates and trains new animals.
Implements and carries out daily animal sessions in accordance with the direction of departmental management.
Satisfactorily performs all primary roles in education and general public presentations.
Competent in animal handling, restraint and transport.
Makes daily observations of animals and reports any abnormalities to management.
Document oral directives and effectively implement to staff.
Requirements:
3+ years of previous animal care or training highly desired. ( Example: former Animal care and training internship(s), animal care volunteering in zoo’s or aquariums, seasonal or past full time work within the animal care or training field)
High School Diploma or equivalent. College degree in a related field preferred but not required.
Proficient in the areas of animal health, natural history and husbandry techniques.
