Job Description:

Will develop subject-matter-expertise surrounding customer- and other payee-facing requirements for information reporting and withholding regarding Discover products. Seeking a compliance-minded individual that is comfortable reading regulations and who is able to, or willing to learn how to convert legal tax requirements into operational requirements. Responsible for supporting Tax Department team with managing department requirements and controls in support of the Discover enterprise product operations programs and overall Tax Department needs.

Responsibilities 

  • Supports ongoing processes and education across the enterprise to improve Operational Tax Compliance. Business teams perform activities that may be subject to tax statutory-, regulatory- or guidance-indicated requirements. Your role will be to ensure that those business areas understand the tax-related requirements.

  • Supports business initiatives to provide new or enhanced products/activities to Discover customers by communicating the tax implications and requirements of those products or activities.

  • Reviews and recommends operational tax-related enhancements to business team procedures, policies and training materials.

  • Recognizes and documents changes in statute, regulations or guidance for communication to business teams.

  • Reviews language in customer/payee-facing communications to ensure language is tax-appropriate.

  • Research answers to issues posed by business teams and formulates responses to those requests.

  • Helps maintain official guidance provided by the Tax Department to business teams.

  • Facilitates and performs activities required by the Compliance Management System (CMS) for Corporate Tax.

  • Develops expertise in contract management tools and as subject-matter-expert for the Tax Department, manages or assists in managing contracts and engagements for the department.

  • Assists more senior compliance professionals in evaluating the adequacy of, updating, and/or creating business policies, procedures, training and reference materials, system and manual processes with respect to regulatory requirements.

  • Communicates and collaborates with business partners in the first and second lines of defense regarding compliance risks and controls.

  • Assists Lead Specialists, Principals, Managers or Senior Manager in discrete portions of larger projects.

  • Maintains a high level of awareness and knowledge of regulatory compliance requirements and assisting in the identification of compliance risks and escalates issues to senior compliance management as identified.

  • Supports the business in operationalizing legal and regulatory requirements.

Minimum Qualifications 

At a minimum, here’s what we need from you: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Economics, Communications, or related field 

  • 2+ years of experience in Compliance, audit, law, risk management, or related field

  • In lieu of education, 6+ years experience in Compliance, audit, law, risk management, or related field

 

Preferred Qualifications

If we had our say, we’d also look for:

  • 4+ years of experience in Compliance, audit, law, risk management, or related field

  • Certified Regulatory Compliance Manager

Compensation:

The base pay for this position generally ranges between $63,500.00 to $107,100.00. Additional incentives may be provided as part of a market competitive total compensation package. Factors, such as but not limited to, geographical location, relevant experience, education, and skill level may impact the pay for this position.
