Job Duties

Do you have a passion for Public Service and want to make a difference in the community? The Portsmouth Health District office is seeking a qualified Certified Nurse Practitioner to join the team and assist in creating positive, healthy change within the community.

The incumbent of this position would perform patient care as a nurse practitioner with ready on-site access to a physician for guidance and oversight. Would perform physical examinations, orders diagnostic tests, prescribes controlled substances, may directly perform or direct others to perform nursing assessments, may perform lab tests, take measurements, develop and implement care plans, including the administration of medication and case management.

Actions performed at this level require licensure as a Certified Nurse Practitioner by state code.

Minimum Qualifications

• Demonstrated knowledge of nursing practice and health principles, physical examination techniques and findings both normal and pathological, disease states, diagnostic testing and limits of testing, and pharmacology
• Ability to perform and interpret physical assessments, obtain medical history, perform and/or interpret diagnostic testing, formulate differential diagnoses and plan of care and provide health education to clients
• Ability to develop patient management plans; excellent clinical judgement with ability to know the limits of practice and when to seek consultation
• Demonstrated ability to work without direct supervision; strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work effectively with staff, patients and the public; ability to participate in educational and professional programs
• CPR/BLS certification
. Licensure as a Certified Nurse Practitioner as required by state code.

Additional Considerations

• Prior public health or community health with significant clinical experience in prenatal, STI, family planning, pediatrics and family practice preferred
