What you'll be doing

Want to build production-grade AI and machine learning solutions that make a real difference for millions of customers?

As a Senior Lending Machine Learning & AI Engineer, you'll join a growing team delivering machine learning, generative AI and agentic AI solutions across Lloyds Banking Group's Consumer business. Working closely with data scientists, engineers and business stakeholders, you'll help take innovative ideas from experimentation through to live production, creating solutions that deliver value for customers and the business.

You'll develop and maintain ML and AI applications in Python, designing and integrating solutions with cloud platforms, APIs, CI/CD pipelines and monitoring tools. You'll play a key role in influencing technical decisions, advocating for engineering best practice and shaping the standards, architecture and culture of the team.

This is a highly collaborative role where you'll work across platform, architecture, governance and business teams to deliver secure, scalable and well-governed solutions. You'll also have the opportunity to contribute to incident management, continuous improvement and the future direction of AI engineering within the Group.

What we're looking for

  • 5+ years' experience delivering software solutions across the full development lifecycle, including taking machine learning or AI solutions from experimentation through to live production environments.

  • Advanced software engineering expertise, including software design patterns, programming concepts, automated testing, CI/CD pipelines and production deployments.

  • Strong Python development experience in a commercial machine learning environment, including libraries such as Pandas, Scikit-Learn and XGBoost.

  • Experience working with cloud-based machine learning and data platforms, including technologies such as Vertex AI, BigQuery, Cloud Run or equivalent cloud services.

  • Practical experience implementing MLOps tooling and frameworks such as Kubeflow Pipelines, dbt or similar solutions, including monitoring and operationalising large-scale models.

  • Experience working with Infrastructure as Code, Kubernetes, API authentication and distributed systems within enterprise environments.

And any experience of these would be great

  • Exposure to Generative AI and Agentic AI frameworks such as LangChain, ADK or similar technologies.

  • Experience configuring and optimising Large Language Models (LLMs), balancing performance, risk and cost considerations.

  • Experience partnering with architecture, platform, governance and risk teams to successfully deploy solutions into production.

  • Knowledge of retail banking, lending products or regulated financial services environments.
